Project RPG

PROJECT RPG

Introduction:

I've always loved playing RPGs (Role-Playing-Games) why? Because whenever I play one I feel like I've been transported into and can immerse in a different world where characters interact in engaging stories, much like fantasy novels if you want a better example. Australia and PAL(Europe) only gets about 33% of the RPG NTSC(U.S) gets, which is quite disappointing. Anyway I was surprised to see that apart from the FF6 Character Profile Project and the NES Project there has not been a formal MEP celebrating RPGs and their growing popularity. I had this idea for a while now and I think it's about time to get the ball rolling.

This project is to be a compilation of various CG/FMV scenes from different RPGs in short clip format (ie one track will lead into the next). Gameplay graphics is not acceptable.

Specifications of the Project
All editors are welcomed and there is no set quota as of yet although you must met the following criteria

1. You may use any RPG you want or have the source to, a video capture card is a bonus. If you are unsure whether or not your source is what I define an RPG suitable for this project then please PM me for confirmation.

2. A MAXIMUM of two editors on any given RPG, including Final Fantasy, if an RPG is taken twice then please look for another RPG you could be interested in doing.

3. 1 track maximum per editor, this is so I know that you're dedicating all your efforts to that piece.

4. A track is to be roughly 30sec-1min in length I'm flexible if you go a bit over.

5. Since this is a celebration of RPGs in the gaming world, you may use any music source you like provided that it does not fall within the parodic/comedy type audios (standard AMV Hell type stuff doesn't belong in this project). I was originally going to go for a 'World Ending' heavy theme in terms of music but with the 'Demons Within MEP' and others I think heavy metal and rock has been done enough as a theme although you may still use these. Please do not abuse Linkin Park, this isn't the Linkin Park MEP :)

6. Right now the deadline stands at 1st November so you have plenty of time to get your sources organised and replay some RPGs if you really want to :D There will be a BETA due date on the 15th
September
so I don't lose track of everything/everyone and know what everyone is up to, so just give a demo of what you're composing and you're all set.

Technical Specifications

-BETAs may be encoded in Xvid, MPEG but I want the final copy as a high quality Xvid or Huffyuv. Please avoid MP4 and H.264 they drive me insane :/

-YouSendIt is the best option to upload your work.

-Please use the best quality sources you can, like I mentioned earlier if you have a video capture card then kudos to you if you don't there are some software which can help you which I doubt I can mention here so www.google.com is your friend or PM me and I can give you the details of a software which can do the job for PSX(PS1) games.

-Audio should be in the highest quality you can, Itunes and CD Rips are bonuses but if you cannot use these then edit using the highest quality .wav file you can.

-DO NOT fade your track in and out and leave video and audio filler if possible, I will be doing the transitions.

-No subtitles some footage have subs in it when characters talk, please find a way to cover or eliminate them.

-Frame rate will be NTSC 29.997, the project will be formatted at a 4:3 aspect ratio so widescreen tracks should be 'letterboxed'.

-Resolution should complement the aspect ratio ie: 640 x 480 for standard 4:3.

-The source audio files should be encoded into the video segment when submitted, remember about the filler audio and video...

I think that covers the most important details, tell me if I left something out which is important to the project.

If anyone wants to make banners/posters for this MEP feel free to indulge in photoshop and I'll add it on this thread.

Finally just for some final clarfication - this is only using RPGs with Cinema Graphics (CG) or FMVs (Full Motion Videos).

I do NOT define the following as suitable for this project:

- ANY OF THE METAL GEAR SOLID SERIES. (I love Metal Gear Solid and contrary to its awesome storyline I do not define it as RPG).

- Resident Evil and Silent Hill, (these are both survival horror genres...).

- Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children, (it's an OVA or a movie however Dirge of Cerberus IS allowed)

- Final Fantasy Spirits Within, (once again this is a movie...)

This sounds like an interesting project. I might just join it, but I'm not sure yet. If I do, it would be my first MEP. I've been playing Parasite Eve a lot lately (doing challenge files and whatnot), so that will probably be my source if I do anything.
OropherZero wrote:- Resident Evil and Silent Hill, (these are both Hollywood films now so I think including them will ruin the integrity of the project).
Er... I don't have a problem with these games not being included. However, your reasoning doesn't add up. The fact that they're movies now shouldn't have anything to do with their usability. The games came first. The fact that they are not RPGs should be the reason. They're both in the survival horror genre.

I just... had to bring that up, because it was bugging me. No offense, naturally.

Anywho, I'll let you know in the next week or two if I get some inspiration and decide to do this. Until then, see ya.

I'm busy working on my own MEP at the moment, but I would be happy to contribute my digital art to the MEP. I won't have time to make an AMV, but I would have plenty of time to make some sigs and banners if you want. Just PM me the specifications

Parasite Eve is survival horror AND RPG so I will accept it.

Fatal Frame 1 and 2 seem to be just horror to me but if not many people sign up for this MEP then I could allow it on the basis that the cinematics can add up to LOOK like an RPG... however right now as the project stands, having Lunar Silver Star Story would really be a bonus to the project. Can you please look into doing Lunar please? :)

code_chrono that would be awesome I'll think of something soon =)

Do you need a program which can rip PS1 games such as Star Ocean? I can easily upload one for you, it's easy to use too, just a matter of putting the game disc in and quickly analysing it for movie sequences.
