Post by spk1983 » Mon Jan 11, 2010 7:25 pm

Well, finally got some time to edit from the beginning of the year...

I'm somewhat happy with it...but I hope some of you all like it *a little*... :amv:

Comments, advice, criticism etc are all welcome :)

I liked the end, when the song picked up.

For the rest, there's WAY too much literal sync for me to take it seriously. Hint: when the singer says "And there's this burning", he's not talking about an actual fire  That aside, visual quality was good, general editing was good, but the scene selection pretty much ruined it for me.

2/5

lol...I wasn't sure how to treat those lyrics myself actually, FLCL is just somewhat starved in terms of serious footage...so I went the literal route.

I'm actually already working on a modification of the video to try to go for more emotion than literal interpretation...don't know how well I'll be able to get it...but I'll try. I'll put up that version for comparison in the near future.

Thanks for the advice though, I guess that's why I was 'somewhat happy', and not truly satisfied with it...need to get feedback to know where I went wrong.

You must be watching a different FLCL than me then...I think I know more drama FLCL videos than I do goofy ones.

If you plan on "redoing" the video I would suggest centering it around some sort of concept or story. Not every line of the song has to have a visual counterpart; you can use such portions of the song to flesh out the story you're trying to tell. My thinking when it comes to these kinds of videos is to merely use the song as a guideline: fit in lyric sync where you can and where it won't look completely stupid, and of course for things like working in cuts and effects (editing, in other words), but don't feel bound to every single word of the song.

Duly noted. I basically modified scenes from the first half of the song as it stands...most of the literal scenes have been changed, trying to be not as literal the second time around, some of the literal scenes would remain, but for others I'm trying to get them to have more of an emotional feel towards the video, as opposed to trying to force them together.

The original version was intended to have some form of a story, focusing on the whole triangle among Naota, Mamimi and Haruko. I'm trying to keep it in a way to look more at Naota and Mamimi at the start. Over the course of the video, Haruko would come into the scene and the focus will drift away from Mamimi.

Again, I welcome the advice, thank you so much.

2nd version available, hopefully it would have a slightly better reception for a no-effects AMV.

loved it, so much, song fit flcl so much, a ton of their songs fit flcl, i have like 4 ideas consisting of flcl and TEB

yea, nice lyrical interpretation, although some of the clips were just like "burning...oh, yeah, fire, burning, ok..." but most of it fit extremely well.

the buildup was immense man, i love the drastic change in mood, it went along so well, totally gonna keep this baby. EXTREMELY motivational.

Thanks for the comments, keep in mind that the second vid (Rev. B version) is a bit more refined, and less literal in content matching (i.e. no burning for the most part ^^)...so if you only watched the first vid, the 2nd one in the original post may work a little better.
