[copypasta'd the description 'cuz it pretty much sums it up]

Well, this is it. My very first AMV. I've never done any editing in my life before and right now I can't shoop whoop even if you kill me... Unfortunately I was forced to use Photoshop a couple of times and I'm sure that the results would've been better if I had some experience under my belt. Also, I had to learn Premiere from scratch for this one and trust me - it was an experiment in frustration. Just a simple example: I found out that in order to get rid of the interlacing in the final render I had to disable "frame blend" from the clips (at least that was the case in my situation). Unfortunately Premiere enables this by default for each and every clip you place in the timeline and by the time I discovered this, the clips I laid were well over 200... I had to remove it from each, manually.
I worked on the clip for about 5 days, with anything from 8 to 12 hours of editing each day. Hell, i spent an entire day to find a decent program to capture videogame footage and to edit it into the clip. No matter what they say, FRAPS blows when compared to Growler Guncam. This nifty program does an INFINITELY better job and you have tons of options and possibilities, at lower processing requirements. Also, the trial version allows full program functionality (which is far greater than any version of FRAPS) and lais no watermarks on the image, so I didn't have to spend cash on it to get the job done.
Finally, having no experience in encoding as well as editing, I had to spend an entire day to experiment with various encoders and codecs. I finally decided on h264, since I got the best compression and quality. Just as an example - with XVid, at the best possible quality settings I got a file of approximately 180 MB. With h264 on the other hand I got a 38 MB file with far superior quality (almost as good as the uncompressed version)

And there you have it. The rants of a noob and his first clip. Enjoy!

Erm... Interesting in a good way I hope :P

Anyway, any kind of constructive feedback would be greatly appreciated. I know there are some things wrong with it, also, it has that "rough around the edges feel", being my first video and all.. But I'm sure there are things that I miss.

It should have been sufficient to set the project field order and export field order to Progressive (No Fields), and the frame blending should only have been an issue on clips that had their speeds changed.

Oh, the progressive was set by me, but believe it or not, the interlacing was a problem even at the clips that didn't have their speeds changed. (i heard that same thing while lurking over the internet for answers)
For example, the section in the middle, where there are those fast cuts over the guitar part of the bridge with the dissolve transition between them - that looked like crap even if the clips didn't have their speeds changed. Those were all cuts of 4 frames each. Maybe it was because of the transition or something...

Anyway, for editing I think I would need to look into Cinelerra also, since I use Linux a lot and it would be great if I could move every editing bit there.

soo you didn't deinterlace your footage before editing...

*edits* now that i've watched this.... It's the second best amv to this crappy series I've seen (the first involves green haired 3D girls with twitchy pigtails that was just plain disturbing) and this amv was also disturbing...
massive additive dissolve abuse in segments and the masking was very bad, also more integration of the game and anime would have been good. Your transitions needed work but damn this is fucking amazing for a first amv, get a hold of photoshop or AE to do your masking next time... paint = suckage

BUT 4.5/5 for totally weirding me out and original concept and WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION!!
new banzors in the making :p

That was awesome ! I totally lost it for the Osaka shoe kick.

The 1st time I did a project with Premiere I had to restart it twice because I screwed up the initial settings and it wouldn't let me change it. Such is life.

This was a very cool video. I was impressed with quality of creativity and editing technique for someone who claims himself to be new in the business.
I believe your strict technique of technical details is what made your effort successful. It's an example of technical discilpline being a fundamental aspect of creativity, concept, and originality.

Excellent first project.

Expect an opinion within a day or two.
