An Noein amv ? us X we : Snow Blue

Post by mtarzaim » Thu Mar 09, 2006 7:24 pm

Hi everyone !

Here is my last amv. It's about Noein, a not-enough-well-known-serie.
Two amv in one here :
- 1 opening for my credits, on the GunXSword OP
- 1 storyline about Fukurou's last moments, on Cowboy Bebop's Blue.

There's spoilers inside (ep1 to 17), so watch with your eyes ... closed ! ( )

Anyway, enjoy one of the few amv on this serie !

I've put the link in my signature, but I didn't know there was a 40px limit to it ... :?
It's half fixed, but I will have to make a new image to fit better.

Interesting video. I liked it overall, though the visual quality was kinda low. I'd have cut out that long intro and assign those extra bits to the main movie itself  THough you did the credits in a interesting way, after the first time watching it, its just in the way.

You succeeded in interesting me in the anime.

Thx for watching it !

About the low video quality, I've tried to encode several parts separately and then encoding them together. The result on my laptop screen wasn't too far from a common direct encode, and save me quite a time (30 minutes to encode less than 2 minutes with classic method !).
I've used DivX6 max quality encoder, and it took me only 18 minutes for a 7 minutes amv. It was essential for me, because my laptop slow down on every 2-and-more mixed scenes, making me to loose the timing in lipsyncs.

Could you tell me what you mean by a low video quality ? I would like to perfect my codec skills. ^^

On the way, thanks for your Zetsumo amv, I really liked it ! :D

Hmm... yeah, quality was very much lacking in the video. I ran it through GSpot... (1) Do what Bakadeshi said about the minute and half long intro (quite frankly it didn't need it and all that information could have been placed in one go or better still just in your video info page). (2) Crop the black bars on the top and bottom, ie. keep it to the 16:9 aspect ratio because the black bars are also encoded into the video, and hence wastes more space again that you could have invested on bitrate. (3) Definitely could have increased the bitrate maybe to at least 3Mbps.

I'm fairly certain you used the latest fansub for your source and I myself have used these to some extent and certainly, it's possible to have had a much better quality than this. Particularly with such a lovely theme and music combination, I guess it just took away some of the enjoyment out of it.

The other major gripe I have with this video is perhaps the lip syncs. Definitely didn't require it. And Fukurou is a guy... Mai Yamane, the singer is a girl... really just came out as awkward to me.

Theme-wise though, I have to say I was not disappointed. Maybe because I follow this series religously, and hence I know what's behind the images, but I got to certain points in the video, particularly the crescendos where I had goosebumps... it captured the melodramatic loneliness that Noein exhibits throughout the series very very very well... I just wish it could have been better quality, though.

Yep, you're probably right. Maybe credits must be at the end, to be easier skipped when you're sick of it. I was in my "I want to do a trailer on Noein" without thinking carefully about how viewers will watch it.

/me baka ! I would have thought about it sooner ...

When i tried a 3Mbps, Iended up with a 135 MB file. A little too big. But maybe the blackline cropping would have fixed it ...

I've searched some better sources, but couldn't find something easily useable ...

Ha ha ha !
I've never seen it in that way. For me, Fukurou is more "speaking" lyrics than "singing" them. Mai Yamane has a "manly" voice (not like Under17 if you prefer), so it wasn't awkward to me. And I really wanted to make him say the "life is but a dream" part.

Another Noein fan on planet Earth ! Kampaï !

Thanks for your reply.
Alas, I'm still far from your level, but I will do my best to progress ... at last in encoding ! :)

Ooh! Something I missed... one of the reasons you had such a huge size when going for higher bitrates is the fact that your audio is still in PCM... try compressing next time, you'll be amazed how much space you'll save ;)

Oh, I didn;t notice that! Yea I'd compress the audio to about 190Kbps. using Lame MP3 (comes with the AMVapp), thats very good quality without the huge space requirement of PCM wav. it'll drop your audio track from taking up 40-50 megs to a mere 4-6 megs in the video file.
