Evangelion Gendo Tribute

Post by Gepetto » Sat Jul 31, 2004 8:47 am

A tribute to Ikari Gendo to the sound of Linkin Park's "Points of Authority".
My first Premiere project (people were kind enough to wait until after it was finished before they told me to Read <a href=http://www.a-m-v.org/guides/avtech31/>ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides</a>). I think it turned out very good (DOWN WITH THE FAGGOTTY WMM2). The lyrics follow, in case anybody is interested.

And here's the link to the vid info.

The lyrics in this song just scream out Ikari Gendo. Or maybe it's just Chester Bennington screaming out Ikari Gendo. Oh, well.

Points of Authority

Forfeit the game
before somebody else takes you out of the frame
and puts your name to shame

cover up your face
you can't run the race
the pace is too fast
you just won't last

You love the way
I look at you
while taking pleasure
in the awful things
you put me through

You take away
If I give in
My life, my pride
is broken

You have to think you're never wrong
[You live what you learn]
You have to act like you're someone
[You live what you learn]
You want someone to hurt like you
[You live what you learn]
You wanna share what you've been through
[To live what you learn]

You love the things
I say I'll do
The way I hurt
myself again just
to get back at you

You take away
When I give in
My life, my pride
is broken

You'd like to think you're never wrong
[You live what you learn]
You have to act like you're someone
[You live what you learn]
You want someone to hurt like you
[You live what you learn]
You wanna share what you've been through
[To live what you learn]

Forfeit the game
before somebody else takes you out of the frame
and puts your name to shame

cover up your face
you can't run the race
the pace is too fast
you just won't last

Forfeit the game
before somebody else takes you out of the frame
and puts your name to shame

cover up your face
you can't run the race
the pace is too fast
you just won't last

You'd like to think you're never wrong
[You live what you learn]
You have to act like you're someone
[You live what you learn]
You want someone to hurt like you
[You live what you learn]
You wanna share what you've been through
[To live what you learn]

You'd like to think you're never wrong
[Forfeit the game]
[To live what you learn]
You have to act like you're someone
[Forfeit the game]
[You live what you learn]
You want someone to hurt like you
[Forfeit the game]
[You live what you learn]
You wanna share what you've been through
[To live what you've learned]

...it wasn't uploaded before? :?:
[dls vid while unsure if a more mellow song would have worked but is grateful that it's not a remix of the song]

:cough:
sorry, the video really wasn't what i had in mind for a Gendo tribute

i really think by now people should be able to get at least consistant footage to work with, but i won't press any further on the video quality issue, it's standard issue needs improvement

the video itself i thought didn't really have enough Gendo in it
it looks like you tried to match the music too much by using clips of the pilots having angel fights, but i think that was a bad idea

i have a lot of ideas for a remaster

for the very first lines
'forfeit the game before somebody else takes you outta the frame and puts your name to shame'
i think you could have definately used some clips of Seele holding a conference with the whole 'takes you outta the frame' and the way they always threaten Gendo 'forfeit the game'

and i'm sorry, i just had to shake my head when i saw Asuka from EoE... that was probably a big mistake and it probably got you into the habit of using non-gendo related clips

'while taking pleasure in the aweful things you put me through'
i think you used a lot of Gendo clips right here really fast that you could have saved to use later in the video

Basically this isn't as much a Gendo video as it is a Gendo the way Shinji sees him video. so for that 'aweful things you put me through' lyric(s) you could have just shown some nice clips of Unit 01 destroying Unit 03 (toji) under Gendo's command

'My Life, My Pride is broken'
you showed Asuka... this isn't an Asuka video so you shouldn't have wasted that line on her, it's a nice line with the guy screaming and not a lot of background music to get in the way, so you could have taken better advantage of that imo

'You wanna share what you've been through'
you showed Gendo preparing unit 01 manually... [shrugs]
this may or may not have been the ONE scene that you probably should have stayed away from, if you're trying to show his 'controlling' 'manipulating' side, you probably don't wanna show him at his best... but with the right song, you could probably make it work

as for the song, i like LP myself, and i prefer their originals (like this one) to their remixes, but i think their songs are very complicated to work with on an AMV musically, so i think you should stick to less musically complicated songs, mellow or at least slower in other words
there was a lot in the song that wasn't timed to anything and a lot of timing that was off so i don't think you're ready to use THIS song yet, but it was a bold effort

i know there aren't a lot of active scenes with Gendo, so it makes it hard to make a video tribute to him, but i don't think that justifies all the digressing you did by using so many clips of the children having angel fights

i guess as advice, i would suggest BUYING the ENTIRE series before you make a video, that way, you avoid subtitle problems, you avoid not having enough scenes to choose from, you get consistant footage quality and it makes the video easier to make and it comes out better in the end

the ending was very dragged on, it wouldn't have been so bad if you hadn't already used that clip in the beginning, and plus, you could have ended it when the clouds parted when Rei threw the Spear, you didn't have to show the Spear going through the Angel

okay. Thank you. Always good to know what other people think of your vid, but do you, like, have anything against Asuka? I just think that all her mental anguish goes really well with the image i was trying to pass of Gendo. Which is also why i put the entire Arael scene at the end, given that Arael is one of the main causes of that anguish. I wanted to depict Gendo as a man who is above everyone else, which is why SEELE didn`t show up in the vid, although i do agree it would match the lyrics nicely.

"You wanna share what you`ve been through". I put Gendo manually preparing Unit 1 because I wanted to show how he always gets things done. He doesn`t take no for an answer and that scene really shows that side of him. The scene with Unit 01 smashing Unit 3 was used. It wasn`t used at the part you appointed because i thought it was more suited for an instrumental section of the video.

There you have my excuses. as for the DVD, I neither have the money to buy them, nor a place to go and find them (Brazil sucks) so there was really nothing I could do. I do respect your oppinion on all of this but we appear to have different ideas of what we want for a Gendo tribute. Besides, this was my first AMV using Adobe Premiere so it really did have some (and by "some" I mean "many") sync problems. That`s what i get for biting off more than I can chew for a project anyways. But for all fairtness, I don`t think it was that bad. But if you could give me some pointers (plz no Read <a href=http://www.a-m-v.org/guides/avtech31/>ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides</a>, I`m still reading that) I`d really appreciate it. Thanks for opping!!

hey, thnx for not biting my head off though, i think sometimes people (including myself) get too hardcore with the comments

i didn't know you were trying to make a parallel between gendo and asuka, if i had known that prior, i guess i wouldn't have minded so much, but it mostly did bug me because it's suppose to be a gendo tribute and you had other scenes in there (the children) that seemed random, i don't really have anything against Asuka

but now that i think about it, i think it's mostly the video footage quality that makes me pick little things out like that, i bet if you had used HQ footage if it were possible, i would have instead thought you did an awesome job using action scenes to match the background musik or sumtin like that

i can see why you used that Gendo helping with unit 01's manual activation now, thnx for the clearing up

btw, it's FAQ, not FAG, it stands for Frequently Asked Questions... or sumtims Fact And Question... but usually it's the first one

as far as editing with premiere, i can respect making that jump, it's such a big issue people have here that Premiere seems to be so necessary to make vids even though slowly people are realizing that there are OTHER programs out there that can do what they need to do... but yeah, i wish i was an expert at using Premiere myself, i've only edited 1 video with Premiere so far (the vid in my sig)... well 1 complete video anyway...

you can of course check it out whenever you want, it seems to be an average/above average video and not many done with that same artist/anime combo

Not when "READ" comes before it. Haven't you been around long enough to know that Read <a href=http://www.a-m-v.org/guides/avtech31/>ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides</a> = <b>R</b>ead <b>E</b>rmac & <b>AD</b>'s <b>F</b>riendly <b>A</b>MV <b>G</b>uide?

Well, I`m glad I had a chance to explain myself. Thank you for your comments, I really appreciated them. A little hardcore, perhaps, but people don`t grow and improve their talents if they don`t hear about everything that`s wrong in their work, so I really can`t thank you enough. Good to know my explanation made sense anyways.
