"How do I love me? Let me count the ways..." (Fun

"It's Only Me (The Wizard of Magicland)" by Barenaked Ladies. A song about a man passionately in love with himself.

Kiryuu Touga of Revolutionary Girl Utena. A man passionately in love with himself.

"My Own True Love." An AMV ode to self-love. Jacket snaps fail with alarming regularity, hair flows like water, and no less than four people sprawl over the hood of a pink convertible. And you thought the series was all rose petals and cute girls staring at each other...

I had hoped for a Valentine's Day release for this, but it turned out to be more complicated than I expected, so it didn't get done. Instead, I decided to finish it in May as a birthday present to myself, so as to continue the narcissism theme. (And it's ten days early. Go, me.)

It's short, rock-ish, and intended to be fun and tongue-in-cheek. You don't need to know anything about the series, but if you do it's probably more entertaining.

This is my first full-length attempt at an upbeat video, and the most lipsync and effects I've ever done. (Don't get all excited; I usually do none at all. And they're all way obvious; see the notes for the reason why.)

And with this I'll hang up Utena AMVing for a while; this is my fourth video with this series, and I need a nice long break. :P

Have fun.

Excellent job! I'm not a huge Utena fan, but there's something compelling about egomaniacal bishounen.

The lipsynch is very well-timed, but I'm not sure what you mean by obvious effects. From what I've heard, the hearts were in the series, right?

Fun vid, people. I haven't seen Utena and I was still smiling almost the whole way through. Get it. :)

  Yeah, with the pixellated edges and all!

No, they have weird visuals now and then (spinning roses, blinking pointers etc. etc.) but no hearts.

I meant the Captain Obvious transitions, mostly. Which were explained in the notes.

Anyway - thanks, guys! 8)

That's Obviousman to you! (sorry)

Anyway though, I really liked the video. I'm a huge fan of cheese, literal and figureative. :D

mmmm, cheese

I've never seen Utena, or rather, only the movie, which I'm told is rather different (at least it was rather... odd). so yeah...

A video focusing mainly on a *guy* from Utena?!

I can't wait to get this downloaded. ^__^

Me too. Glad you liked.

Yeah, the series is more straightforward and explains itself a bit more. And has about three times as many characters. I like them both, but they're different. (shuts up with the series vs. movie rambling)

I know! Though I did start this thing muttering to myself "must not look too much like 'Love Is Flowers,' must not look too much like 'Love Is Flowers'..." the relative rarity of videos about the supporting characters are one of the reasons I made it.

*start ramble #2*
That, and everybody automatically thinks "oo, naked girls!" when the series actually has way, way more male fanservice than anything. And nobody erm, showcases that. ;)

I still haven't seen that video. o.o

But you did, and thank you very much for it! ^_^ You've just reaffirmed my like of this anime. It's been a while since I seriously considered getting it. I really liked the way you flipped through the scenes (the 'blantant' transitions worked perfectly), and there was one scene where he was hitting on Utena and it ended with a little shot of her looking back at him with the funniest expression on her face. ;p It was perfect. That and Anthy watching the little television.

But I have to ask...fangirl question here. If I could only get one arc, which one would get me the episodes with Saiyonji that were shown here? I've seen the series at a few stores, but I can't tell just by reading the cases which one has the most focus on him and Touga. I know I saw a flashback episode of them as teenagers once (back when it was fansubbed), but I have no idea where in the series it took place. :(

Regardless, this vid is going on my bishonen watch list (aka favorites list). Excellent work. ^_^

Do! It's quite funny. 8)

I have to admit, I really like that shot. Utena's "go to hell" expressions and Nanami's blank stares really help this thing, somehow. Glad to see I wasn't the only one who thought so. ^_^;

The flashback of them as kids is in ep. 9. (I have a spreadsheet with all this stuff; it's not memorized. ) Saionji's duels, which are where he has the most exposure, are in 1, 2, 9, and 25, and he also has a pretty big supporting part in ep 8 (one of the comedy-relief ones), 19-20 (Black Rose duel involving him) and 35-36 (Touga's last duel). Most of the Saionji shots in this AMV come from 35-36, where he has a lot of scenes with Touga.

Primetime for the two of them are probably... 9, 25, 35, and 36.

*breath*

Those scenes in particular are from the next to last disc (Revelation). Most exposure overall is probably in the second disc of the series (8-13, Rose Collection 2). Especially considering that ep 13 is a clip show and summarizes part of 1&2.

That said, I won't be working with this series for a while; PM me if you'd like to borrow it, okay?

...trainspotting RGU fan signing off.

Sounds nice. Getting now, I'll respond once it's finished... in a few days, I'm sure. ;p
