I watched Kimikiss Pure Rouge earlier this year and wanted to make a video to it pretty much as soon as I finished, but found it difficult to start and so the idea just kept lingering in the back of my mind until I ran out of excuses for not editing it. Much respect to people who find it easy to edit to this kind of music...this slower, sparser music continues to be a challenge for me to really nail down, but I'm very satisfied with the result. Anyway, enjoy!

I really wasn't feeling this one on the first watch, so gave it another try. It's definitely hard to get into - there's not a lot to catch your initial interest between the sparse 2000s-y animation and the minimalist song choice. One thing I sort of am sad that you didn't try for was syncing more stuff on the individual guitar notes as they're plucked during the slower parts of the song.
On second watch I got more out of it. I think my favorite part was around 3:18 where the protagonist starts reminiscing about the past as the singer says "and it's impossible to tell how important someone was..." It was here I think I understood why you picked the song to go with this series, and I definitely felt a pang of wistfulness.
Overall an interesting watch. I'll definitely be keeping it in mind when I attempt to edit to a slower song - so far I just haven't been brave enough, haha.

Re: Prose
This was one of my absolute favorite AMVs from all of last year and I say this having gone into it with absolutely zero expectations at all.
My first reaction to this was also "wow, this video is slow!" and I'm really interested in why I was so initially impatient with it. The song is four and a half minutes long, that time is not gonna go by any faster if there's a hundred extra cuts thrown in there.
The tone and the pace of this video is completely appropriate for what it's about and the emotions it wants to explore. Making it more upbeat or intense would undermine that, imho.
People were much more receptive to slower videos like this in the past, this AMV would be received in a totally different way 10 years ago. But maybe that's just kind of a given when it comes to anything.
Anyway, this AMV is great.

How slow do you want to go?

So, I watched it a second time this time and I do agree that I get more out of this AMV when watching a second time.vivafruit wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 5:46 pmI really wasn't feeling this one on the first watch, so gave it another try. I found this AMV complicated to understand when watching the first time through. Then, upon revisiting the AMV a second time, the AMV made more sense to me. Maybe my brain looks at AMVs too simplistically but I do like that your AMV required me to re-watch your AMV a second time.
Comments about the AMV...
The AMV was... surreal? The AMV had a specific flow being encapsulated and I do not think the AMV was a 'slow' edit, per say, but instead, the AMV was maintaining that unique flow you were following.
I think, I do not know, that the unique flow or the strange feeling is that this AMV is very pleasant to watch because of the pacing of the song... but the AMV is also sad to watch because of the theme of the AMV. (The theme of the AMV following the life of the girl whom loved but let loss).
So, I think that is why the song suits this AMV well... I think. And I think you made a really great AMV

Re: Prose
Thank you everyone for the feedback on this. I appreciate those of you who were willing to give this a second look even when it didn't resonate with you the first time around...you are much more gracious than I tend to be with videos that I don't jive with on my first viewing
I have to say, I'm interested by all the comments regarding the video being slow -- are there really so few out there in this vein? Maybe there are!

There were certainly moments I could have done more sync, but in pretty much every one of those instances I made a deliberate choice not to do so because I wanted to practice a looser sync style. I've seen too many videos that use a slow song and yet still manage to go overboard on the sync. That said, I think there's definitely an art to knowing when to let things linger across multiple beats/strums/etc. and when to acknowledge them that I haven't come close to mastering yet.vivafruit wrote:I really wasn't feeling this one on the first watch, so gave it another try.
