Dear You [Hyouka AMV]

Post by Cirera » Thu Jan 15, 2015 7:17 am

I have finally mastered encoding and the filesize makes me cry tears of joy.

So, first Hyouka video, no major spoilers to the series plot itself. Just a small story video with a gorgeous song. Not much else to say.
Local and & Mediafire links available.

We Love White, we love bright. A little slow but nice ^__^

Edit: I do have to say, there IS something about this that I like,
but I can't seem to figure it out - now THAT'S IMPRESSIVE.

Yay, you're still around! ^_^

I enjoyed this, although I think I would have liked it more had I seen the series. Seems to be a sentimental-type video aimed at fans, which is fine, it just didn't do a whole lot for me, not being familiar with the characters. Still, good editing all around, and I did really like the ripple effect you used near the end. I also appreciate that you made the subtitles really tiny...made it easier to ignore them (I generally don't like subs for songs in AMVs). I wish you had made it possible to turn the subs off altogether though.

Only thing that slightly bothered me was that the brightness seemed to be turned way up -- you've done this on past videos and it worked alright on A Little Pain, mainly because it helped to wash out the footage and give it a kind of vintage look. With a modern, really pretty anime like this though, it did more harm than good. The video felt dreamy and slightly surreal, but if that's what you were going for I think there are probably better ways to achieve that effect without compromising video quality.

Still, that's a relatively minor thing. This was mostly quite good, and I can see myself enjoying this more whenever I finally get around to watching Hyouka. Looking forward to more 2015 videos from you!

I really liked this and I haven't seen this anime. I usually pass by these AMVs because the anime doesn't really catch my attention and I haven't seen it.

This one got me hooked, I love it so much. It's very well edited.

I wish it didn't have subtitles or I would have added it to my collection :(

I liked this, had some nice stuff in it. Not really a romance amv kind of guy so it felt a little slow paced for me, but it wasn't bad just not my "cup of tea" I suppose you could say. I think the only thing I didn't like were the subtitles which I pretty sure you added to show the songs translation, but I don't think they were really needed for anyone to understand the amv and as a result acted more as a distraction. But otherwise lots of good stuff, well edited just not really my kind of amv is all. Good job.

Thank you everyone for the comments! As a gift, I'd like to give you all a link to a non-subbed version of the video! O:

The reason I originally uploaded the subbed version was to help people understand the song, and therefore the story, but I probably should stick to translating the song on YouTube annotations instead of hard-subbing the video. ^^

Ah~, yay, I'm so glad you liked it!
I can't take credit for the ripple effects, those are from the anime itself (the opening scenes~), all I did was make them black & white and added a dodge overlay. ^^;

Would you believe me if I said the brightness was worse in the first few versions? My lovely betatesters commented about that after each render and I kept turning it down. xD In the end I didn't make the clips brighter at all, all I added was a soft contrast effect to make the video slightly contrasted and a bit dreamy with the tint effect. Towards the end the brightness jumps to a crazy level because of the dodge overlays I had on there, and those were just... necessary to me. I'll try to control my contrast obsession in the future. Thank you~!

I'm honored you didn't pass this one. Thank you so much for watching it! ^^

Yeah~, I wanted to help people understand the song and the story, so I left the subtitles. But I did this same thing in my Clannad video, and ended up uploading the raw & the subbed version. People always seem to comment about them and it's true, subtitles do take the attention away from the video itself~^^;

Thank you for the comment!

Enjoy the non-subbed version, guys!
