Forum rules
Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

I beg to differ. I have a small group of watchers (over 50 if my downloads and good star scores are any evidence) and I have *not* conformed my style. I make the amvs I want to see made - and that includes (but is not limited to) dbz vids. For mass appreciation, give them what they want. But you don't have to sacrifice your own preferences to get an audience - you just have to aim it *toward* an audience - an audience with the same tastes as you have.

Heh, they'll keep saying no one wants to watch them till the org freezes over, but there will still be dbz fans. And telling people to 'conform' is like saying, "throw creativity out the window and make what the most popular editors are making since that's what people want to see."

Eyeck...how bland. :?

If "conforming" means what I think it means, then that sentence made perfect sence.
If you want to expect something massive or even a small group of watchers for your AMV's, then you have to adjust (conform) your editing style to suit the current trend. In other words NO Dragonball.

I didn't mean it quite that literally! I just forgot to mention that there are a lot of different "trends" out there and one's own editing style fits in with them somehow.

I have to agree with Esrhan. Too much just is too much. That's a simple fact.

But the definition of 'too much' is an opinion. I think there's too much Evanescence videos, I think there's too much Love Hina videos, I think there's too much Samurai X videos, I think there's too much of a lot of things around here. That doesn't make it a fact, simple or not.

Go start another 'anti-dbz' thread and call it a day. This is a thread for helping someone with his videos, not a place to say "I think there's too much of that genre, stop making those vids." Let's just keep those 'discussions' (orders) in the General AMV section with the other threads, shall we? ^_^

To get back on topic (while considering your points), if you want to make the masses happy, crawl on your knees until they deem you worthy of knowing exactly what they want to watch. Then copy other popular videos to give them exactly what they want to watch. You'll be miserable, but by God, you'll be popular! And that's all that matters, right? Enough is enough, give the people what they want. They don't want your preferred genre, so stop doing it - too much is too much, that's a simple fact.

Yeah...I need to learn to be succinct.

Good point. I happen to enjoy Love Hina and NGE AMVs. I really can't get enough of them and the majority of vids in my hard drive have Eva footage in them. But you don't really care for Love Hina and there seems to be a general complaint about too many Eva vids (to the point where I was questioning whether or not I should announce mine on the boards :? ). It's all a matter of personal taste. I'm sure if you are a big fan of a certain series, you could never have too many AMVs from it.

Now how many times Eva can be done to Chop Suey I don't know... :P But it doesn't bother me as long as everyone has their own approach to it. Come to think of it I don't have a single Eva/Chop Suey AMV in my computer. Ah well...I never really liked the song anyway.
