Kewl it's finally up.
The first track - Dreamy mood part - moody and neat. The mask on the hands works good. I'd still shorten the beginning a bit though.
Transition - great idea. Now it does feel connected, and the change isn't so abrupt.
The second track - "Fresh summer part" - Thanks to transition that part is properly introduced and works nice now. The mood is more stable thx to small scene changes you made.
All in All - You really nicely improved it since the last time i've seen it. The mood is propably it's strongest point, and I'd say that it somehow resembles SoHs Voodoo Child in terms of mood
4.2/5

Glad you got the idea, as the point kinda was the universal language of childhood. But yeah, thanksPankyy wrote:Even the dl speed was very low, I watched it, and I liked it, even if i only understand very little of french (which a lot of words look like spanish) and japanese, I could somehow understand the idea of the video. You, sir, are awesome. Feedback has been so awesome in this thread because of these kind of posts. I mean, I love seeing my vid provoke strong reactions like these, whether it's good or bad, and I've got a few here. But yeah, anyway, thanks so much. The fact that you love the second part means a whole lot to me, as that one took alot longer to edit than the other, but feedback hasn't been great, even though I enjoy it alot.omegaevolution wrote:anyway it finished downloading, I watched it and I must say I really liked your AMV, you are now a sentimental editor for me =P. Nah the first song wasn't my liking and I couldn't get to your mood there, maybe I should watch it a few more times, anyway the second part was very sweet for me :3, loved every second of it. Credits were cool too XD.
A great work from you Greg, definitelly an improvement .
4/5 if I could give rating
And thanks for the credits love xD
I'll use Eureka 7 next time, ok?meleechampion wrote:It wasn't bad I suppose. Not much value in it for me personally though.

Seriously, thanks for checking it out, and seeing as this is a very personal video, I entirely foresaw some people wouldn't dig it that way.
BEST COMMENT EVARAutraya wrote:*edits* ok the answer is yes to my first question....
I'd say it is over filtered but i saw some of your raw footage so i know that's not the case.
I don't have much to say on this.... I was bored and couldn't finish it.... it was also weird and... words fail me
Seriously, you have no idea how much I enjoy brutal honesty, in a kind of kinky way. So thanks!

Interesting, huh? <:lReigna wrote:Nice work, Greggus. This wasn't exactly my cup of tea, but the editing was solid and it was cool seeing this source being used. I preferred the first part to the second, though part of that may be due to my taste in music. XD But yeah, good job.
Again, diverging opinions make me happy. I couldn't honestly pick a favorite between the 2 tracks, but it seems most people can quite easily O_O
But thanks for watching!
Uhm, I did a quite a bit, though maybe not what you're thinking. Just setting the camera a little differently in each shot, and editing them together.ScorpionP wrote:Not bad, but I'm curious about one thing. The part around 2:03-2:26... Did you do something there or was it like that in the show?
Anyway, watch the movie and you'll find out :O But thanks for watching this!
Oh, I can't believe you just compared me to Voodoo Child. Seriously, I'm just gonna go dance in the rain now, or something.Szwagier wrote:Kewl it's finally up.

Right, I'm back. You're such an awesome beta-tester, and I practically owe you this video. So I hope you don't mind if I recommend you to everyone I know

Thanks alot man, and check out that movie! It's one of a kind, and it's the reason I made the video.Fizziks wrote:A very nice vid you've got here. The music fits the mood well, and I've never seen an anime quite like the one you used for this vid.
Right, thanks for the awesome comments, everybody. I like the passion people are bringing to this thread

And for the people who had trouble downloading, please try again now! You'll have no more problems.

After watching it, i don't know what to think of it. The first part was strange somehow, it might be because of the music, but it was definately strange. The second part was a lot better, editing wise too, i don't know what was edited and what was originally there, but it seemed very nice. It was an okay video, not your best though, but different, so overall it was good. The thing i loved was the text in the outro - really nice stuff (i liked the text in your last video as well).

Ok, FINALLY was able to watch it (had to download it twice), so here's a mini-op for you:
I'm really torn on this. I don't know what to think, exactly, because frankly (and I never thought I'd say this) this video seems almost TOO conceptual for me. I think I'm probably missing something really obvious, but I just did not get what you were trying to say with this, at all. Some explanation might definitely help, because I really want to grasp the idea you were trying to convey, it just seems like you were trying too hard to say it.
On the technical side of editing, I thought this was pretty well executed. I personally would have liked to have seen you give more attention to the actual music (and in this aspect I feel like your concept just kind of overtook the whole thing). My favorite parts of the video were when you really paid attention to the music, like from 2:01-2:11, 2:22-2:26, and from 2:56-3:02. While the rest of the video followed the music's rhythm pretty well, I kinda wish there had been...more, you know?
The scene changes and everything went with the general beat of the music, but very rarely did you actually follow any structure, and I think the video would have been more fun to watch if you had given it some. You sync scene appearances or brightness increases to random guitar strums - luckily for you, none of them feel out-of-place or anything, but it was harder to appreciate these moments because I couldn't predict when they were coming.
As a final note, the visual quality of this video is just BAD - and I'm not referring to the animation, which I'll get to in a second. The animation is blurry as hell, almost throughout the entire thing. And the macroblocking...oh man, do you see that, in the first few scenes? Like at 0:12? It's UGLY. I honestly wouldn't give this more than a five or six out of ten if I could give you a real op. I understand you're on a Mac so you don't have access to everything we PC users do, but you could at least send the lossless file to someone with a PC to AviSynth it a little. You coulda sent it to me, I wouldn't have charged you anything. Consider it in the future, I'll gladly clean your footage up for you, and I'll even compress it too.
As for this:
Oh, and for the most part, the music =
The second song was okay, but I'm really just not into French music.
Ok, so, to summarize: 3/5 for a good effort. If you give me a meaningful and believable concept I'd bump it up to 4/5, but you need to work on the more technical aspects of your editing, as well as video compression and quality in general.

What? If Shinkai and whoever animated this knew each other, Shinkai would make him his bitch. I really didn't like the animation in here, maybe partly because of the video's quality, but it just seemed so plain. Reminded me too much of Grave of the Fireflies, an anime I hated because I couldn't stand the actual animation. I'd still like to see this "anime" in full quality (I think this is the one Reigna and I were checking out in the dealer's room at ACen because the animation caught our attention), but until then I can't say I was impressed with the visual aspect of this anime, at all.Not only do I find it the most beautiful anime ever created (Yeah, screw you, Shinkai)

Okay, so i think i should tell what my real thoughts of this crappy video are, the above statements i made are lies, so here is the real stuff:
MSN wrote: Kaxi üzenete:
so, i'm gonna watch it again now
yeah the song is definately gay
i mean lesbian
the scene around 0:54
where the boy makes a bird with his palms
this scene is so moving, it express a shitbag of feelings and thoughts, like can a man really fly, is flying passible with having AIDS, and are there birds that can fly with having similar wings as the human palm or is there really light at the end of the tunnel if you die
greg üzenete:
rofl
Kaxi üzenete:
a true masterpiece
i almost cried
greg üzenete:
good work guessing he has AIDS
Kaxi üzenete:
really? nice
damn boy he should have known why that whore was so cheap
quality is quliaty even in raw flesh
now this scene at 1:15, it seems he has to take a shit, in that position, seriously, how can a man go down on a hillside in such a gay position
now i'm sure he did want to take a shit, at 1:36, you can see for yourself, what do you think goes into the water?
1:52-1:54 now this is the darkness i was talking about
now this question is serious, did you make this scene around 2:25?
greg üzenete:
xD
Kaxi üzenete:
and i have a huntch that around 3:00 is your doing
greg üzenete:
2:25, yeah
Kaxi üzenete:
and at 3:00
?
greg üzenete:
checking
2:56 to 3:03 is all me
Kaxi üzenete:
man
these are great
and i'm serious now
i'm proud of you
greg üzenete:
fucking took a ton of work to get em right
I'm fucking proud of myself
Kaxi üzenete:
and the text at the end is great too
i liked them a lot
and i was right about the last 2 secs
they are just black video
so you can take this sriously:
greg üzenete:
and the music is nice in those 2 seconds
Kaxi üzenete:
i get the whole meaning behind that blackness, with that, you express feelings like darkness, emptiness, total depression, being alone in the dark, being afraid of something you don't know, can't see, seriously, those last 2 secs told everything a video can, you are a genious
greg üzenete:
I should have named the video that
Kaxi üzenete:
yes the music as well, this is the real turning point
this is were everything builds up and than bursts out
a great musical experience and it builds feelings in ones souls you know
you did a great job with putting that 2 sec of darkness at that specific 2 secs of pure musical genius there
greg üzenete:
I'm actually surprised more people haven't reacted like you
because the video IS cheesy as hell
Kaxi üzenete:
yeah i'm totally depressed as well knowing there are too few retarded faggots like me around
we really should use a lot more
like writing pure bullshit of pitch darkness
seriously, i'm gonna write you an op right now, copy pasting this chat
greg üzenete:
can't, it's not local
Kaxi üzenete:
it has everything which has to be said about your pathetic video
greg üzenete:
and for that, I am blessed

@Ben : *deep breath* Let's do this.
Right. Thanks for your honesty. I figured it'd be hit or miss with you, but here goes for the concept. Thanks for allowing me to post this without a vid information page, by the way. I usually feel like letting people interpret a little for themselves, but I won't hold anything back, this time :
It's extremely personal, but we can start with the less personal. It's basically an ode to childhood, but it's also melancholy for the disappearance of small towns, replaced by the big cities. The urbanization process is basically seen here from the eyes of a 10 year old boy, who just wants to get out of this nowhere place he lives in. He feels empty inside, and the whole first scene is him trying to actually achieve some kind of rebirth, the water used as placenta and all. Throughout the video, the water kinda symbolizes childhood and the sky represents adulthood (Hence the title, which could be represented as "Becoming an Adult").
So anyway, (And this is where it gets weird), the whole video is a flashback, but the first part still takes place "before", and the second "after", sorta 30 years later or something. You can sorta intuit that the small town became the big city. I tried to make people think that by meshing the 2 alot visually. If you didn't get this, I don't blame you. It's not really made to make sense. Just to express my own feelings about childhood.
So the first part kinda evolves into a dream, which shows the kid meeting a beautiful girl. That girl, and the beautiful world she lives in, kinda embodies (This in the movie as well) everything he wishes he had, but doesn't.
At the end of the first part, you can see him as an adult in the background, and that's the one hint you'll get he actually lives in that city now.
The second part is mostly childhood flashback reel, set in the city on top of the ruins of the old town. Basically, and this is what I find most poignant about it in the end, the kid left, and explored the real world, and realized his small town wasn't so bad after all, which is fine. But he couldn't actually return to his small town, because it'd been destroyed, replaced by an urban landscape. When the only proof of your existence is your memories, that's really sad, I find.
Even weirder, possibly : In the second part, the ending actually shows the kid as if he had seen the future, and everything he would lose. Have you ever gotten that feeling, where you knew exactly what was gonna happen to you for the next 40 years? I have sometimes, and so I just used it.
The vid is really meant as hopeful though, and the bird is the weirdest for me to explain : He just... symbolizes that time means nothing, and that as we grow, and spread our wings and fly, we will then be able to appreciate all moments of our life as if they were the present. Make any sense? I thought so
I could write forever about this, but I'm tired of writing. Just a note on video quality : I use Avisynth, and I thought you knew that, dude. But even though the movie is beautiful, the DVD footage SUCKS. I dare you to make it look better. I really, really do. I'll let you try, any day
Regardless, this was never meant to put the animation forward, and you actually made me realize it almost does the opposite. But watch the movie, and you'll understand who made who his bitch.
Do I get 4/5 now? <:l
