Kill Your Idols

Hey all -- here's the video I made for AWA Pro this year. It's a bit out of my wheelhouse in terms of genre/editing style (kinda), but I had a lot of fun making it and I hope you all enjoy watching it!

I really underrated this when I watched it in the Peer Review Online contest. No, I don't think there was any bigger ambition here than to make an action/character profile video, so of course my brain went ahead and just kind of associated it with a lot of other stuff I'd seen that falls into that box, and that really didn't do it any favors! The process of trying to watch everything in the PRO contest doesn't allow for much more than hasty first impressions, unless you want to take days to get through every AMV. I think that sort of turf puts this kind of video, one that doesn't rely on a big joke or unexpected twist, at somewhat of a disadvantage.

There's a lot of brilliant internal sync in this that I didn't appreciate until now, much of which is really subtle and just kind of went over my head the first time I watched this AMV. I think my conditioned reaction to fighting scenes with rap music, along with the mixed feelings I had about One Punch Man S2, just made me miss the point of this altogether. It's a well-structured character profile, and I love how compact it feels while still being a fully flushed out AMV.

Huge departure from the kind of stuff I'm used to seeing from you, that's for sure. But expectations are made to be broken.

Thank you! I kind of figured your initial reaction to this video was what I'd be getting in general given the anime and song genre, so don't feel too bad :P
