Copycat's Big, Dumb 28* Video Hootenany

Post by Copycat_Revolver » Mon Nov 30, 2015 10:43 pm

*That's odd. I don't see 28. Where are the others?

As of this November, it has been ten years since I joined the org. So to celebrate(?), I've gone back through a swath of old videos that have been sitting unreleased, many of them for years, and begun releasing them over the course of November, and now I've compiled them all here for your perusal. With some of these, I didn't release them because I always had intentions of returning to them and 'finishing' them proper-like. But of course that never happens and I damn well know it. So this is a chance to clear out all these cobwebs in my attic and move on. Not literal cobwebs. Also, I have no attic. It's a basement apartment. An attic would be impractical.
Now, in no particular order:

The Comeback
Previously seen: Momocon 2014 Finalist, AWA Expo 2014

Spoiler :
This is a wug. Now there are two of them. There are two ____.

Actually, there are signifigantly more than two. How many can you spot?

The Lady and the Taiga
Previously seen: Momocon 2015 (played during AMV Arena)

Spoiler :
Sometimes these things just happen. Meant this one as a sort of practice run for my Masters video, so any similarities are not entirely coincidental.

Playing The Odds
Previously seen: AWA Pro 2015

Spoiler :
Okay, look, it's almost entirely sincere.

Radiation Sickness
Previously seen: AWA Pro 2015

Spoiler :
This boils down to a very stupid idea that I absolutely had to see done. I apologize for nothing.

Hemoptysis
Previously seen: AWA Pro 2014 (different version)

Spoiler :
This one (and the next video) were both actually released some time ago, though I've never announced either. I've included them here for the sake of completeness.

Nightmare
Previously seen: AWA Pro 2014

Spoiler :
"...the worst one in the contest." -CrackTheSky
"[picture of wedding ring]" -CeliaPhantomhive

17 Minutes To The Deadline
Previously seen: AWA Pro 2013

Spoiler :
I never would have thought about this one ever again had BenTheSky not been so insistent on me releasing it, citing it as his favorite video of mine. Why, when this video was thrown together in a scant few hours? Some mysteries will never truly be solved. For instance: alpacas.

Calcium Hypochlorite
Previously seen: AMV Roulette Round 1

Spoiler :
Coppelion was a series I grabbed with no other purpose but, "Maybe I'll be able to use this for something..." In the end I'm happy with how this turned out.

Silver Nitrate
Previously seen: AMV Roulette Round 2 (alternate version)

Spoiler :
It is getting hot in here, but how shall I alleviate that? All instructions to that effect have been removed.

Hydrogen Peroxide
Previously seen: AMV Roulette Round 3 (less polished version)

Spoiler :
Note: That's not really what happens.

Return of the Kittens
Previously seen: AWA Expo 2015?, otherwise nowhere

Spoiler :
It's a random action video. What do you want from me? Spiritual successor to Shooty, Punchy, and Bang Bang. Which is to say, almost the exact same video.

The Maddening
Previously seen: The Quickening 2012

Spoiler :
Another video I tend to forget about. This is not the only one that was claimed by an unpleasant period of time, but upon looking back over them, this is the only one I think is worth keeping, odd dolphin in-joke aside.

The Quittening
Previously seen: The Quickening (non-competing)

Spoiler :
Everything is fine.

Gamma Channel
Previously seen: Nowhere

Spoiler :
Jeg viste det til hende , men hun synes ikke at pleje. Og dog har jeg aldrig kunne skrive denne video fra. En dag vil jeg finde, at alpaca .

Practice Round
Previously seen: On my computer and nowhere else (circa 2011)
Spoiler :
No clever name for this one. If you want to see other Iron Chef videos of mine, how about these two:

Momocon AMV Arena 2014 (winner)

Momocon AMV Arena 2015 (edited with Magix)

CYO AMV: The Best(?) Of
A few years back, I helped run an activity book themed panel at AWA. My main contribution: a game in which audience members would "make" their own AMV by choosing from a series of binary conditions. In total, with a bit of help, I made 24 different videos for the panel, many of which were never shown publicly. Here are my favorites of the ones I edited.

The Comeback
Thoroughly odd and fun. Reminds me a lot of some of your really old stuff, for some reason. I liked this one.

The Lady And The Taiga
Weird, but fun. I like the extensive lyric sync. Editing is solid too. The only thing that is kind of off-putting is the song itself, so while this is edited fine I probably won't rewatch it too much, if ever. I will also say that the text overlays were...aggravating, and I think they kind of subtracted from the overall experience.

Playing The Odds
I can't believe this didn't get a single nomination in Pro. This was easily my favorite video of the contest, and one of the highlights from this year, period. It's so optimistic and happy and it makes me feel so good, I love it. The editing is top-notch too, so much internal sync and nice lyric sync, it's one of your best videos and I hope you make more like this.

Radiation Sickness
*Sigh*

Hemoptysis
Yes, I loved this video last year, still love it today. Especially after the song picks up, this video is just awesome, and has great editing throughout. I also really enjoy the last 30 or so seconds, the whole video just gives off this intense vibe of insanity that's solidified at the end.

Nightmare
I stand by my statement in the Pro thread. Your worst video by far. Sorry man

17 Minutes to the Deadline
This has wormed its way into being one of my probably all-time favorite videos; I've watched it so many times over the past two years that I've completely lost count, I love every single thing about this. I'm a little iffy on a few changes you made from the Pro version from 2013, but it might just be because I've gotten so used to that video over the years that the changes were jarring to me. Whatever, I have both versions so I can watch whichever :P

Seriously though, phenomenal internal sync throughout, fantastic pacing, just-right lyric sync...it's such a balanced video in literally every way I can think of. And for whatever reason, this moment is among my favorite pieces of internal sync ever:

Image

Calcium Hypochlorite
Good choice of anime for this song. I enjoyed this, although I thought some of the lyric sync was a bit contrived. Still, it gave off a perfectly bleak and desperate atmosphere. Cool stuff.

Silver Nitrate
Between this and Pamplemousse I probably have no reason to ever make a Kyousougiga video, but I still want to. Great job on this, you nailed the mood of the show as well as the general lack of direction it had. Really fun video.

Hydrogen Peroxide
I like it but that's about it. Editing feels kinda sloppy and uneven in some places, but at the same time it's pretty cool how well the song and anime seem to go together. Tells a cute story pretty clearly and is quirky enough to hold my attention all the way through.

Return of the Kittens
Really solid pure action video, nothing more or less. I love the energy in this, and the editing has a great balance between internal and external sync. Nothing too much else to say. These aren't usually the types of videos I like (I don't tend to prefer straight action like this), but I really dug this one.

The Maddening
It's a mess, but the first two-thirds of it is pretty interesting. Has a weird twisted vibe to it that I like, but the last third just kinda kills the whole thing. I wish this had ended better because I think you were on to something.

The Quittening
What's going on in your head

Gamma Channel
This was awesome. I realize it's nothing but opening scenes but it's one of those videos that just looks really neat, and is edited really well. It also didn't conform to the feeling or source material of any other OP-heavy AMVs I've seen, so it managed to feel fresh despite the fact that I usually complain about videos like this. Really cool.

Practice Round
About what I'd expect from a 2-hour IC. Not bad, not great. You more or less nailed the mood of the video though; my main hangup is that I got so sick of GWLTT videos 8+ years ago and that hasn't really worn off. This one feels like most of the other ones.

Your other ICs that you posted were also quite good...the MomoCon 2014 one was really excellent.

CYO AMVs
These were all pretty hit-or-miss with me, however a few of them I liked quite a bit -- Spaceman, Liaison, and Roadtrip were all great, and those first two could really do with being built into full-fledged AMVs. The others I didn't much care for, but then if I understand the process correctly it doesn't seem like you really had a great deal of control over how these were edited. Still, interesting stuff here.

Anyway, great way to end the year, there are some seriously good videos here
