Please Save My Earth AMV

Post by ookamiko » Fri Mar 07, 2008 1:37 pm

This is my first AMV. This was mainly to learn the process of completing a video. I tried to focus on timing and hitting beats. I will be spending a lot more time on the next video. Please leave any suggestions. Constructive criticism is always welcome.

Thanks!

Haha. Oh wow. This is officially one of the best first videos I have ever seen. You nailed the mood of the song right on the head, the first half especially. Perfect scene selection pretty much throughout the entire video, great lyric sync (though nothing so literal it was cheesy, which is always a plus), and just a really great flow. There wasn't much beat sync (ironic considering you say that's what you were practicing), but I wouldn't have it any other way - you did really well matching the pace of the song regardless.

The one thing I would have changed editing-wise would have been to take out the lip sync you did (except maybe for the first 15ish seconds). None of it was really bad in technical terms (i.e. it all matched up with the words closely enough), but this song doesn't really lend itself to lip sync, and overall I think it did detract very slightly from the atmosphere of the video. Thankfully there wasn't very much of it, so it's not a huge deal to me.

My other complaints are all about the qualiy of the video. It's pretty ugly, you definitely could and should have compressed it with a better codec (i.e. XviD or x264, if you don't know how, read this). Also, maybe due to the compression or something to do with the actual source you edited with, every so often the scenes would play back in a jerky fashion. They 'skipped', if you will.

Quality issues aren't a huge concern for me, and as this is your first video problems like these are expected. If you had made a video before, this'd get a 4/5 from me, but since it's your first I'll gladly give you 5/5 and I look forward to more videos from you!

P.S. - The title of this video is terrible, IMO :P

You should also look up how to get rid of the interlacing you have. If you don't know what that is either then read this and this as well.

I really was impressed by your AMV. That is quiet an achievement for an first try! You have of course some techical flaws but the mood and the scene selection was really well chosen. I sat through the whole thing that being said for the first AMV is quiet an achievement. You have got talent! Keep it up :D

CrackTheSky & Nunchuck thank you for your comments!

After I was half way through putting the video together I started looking into how to fix the jerky video problem and realized I missed a step. I decided to just finish it as it was and start out correctly next time. Thanks for the links and suggestions.

Wasn't as impressed, to be completly honest. :?

Like Crack said, this is MUCH better for a first time video then most of the stuff we get around here.

*Video quality needed vast improvement.

*Jerky playback & other interlacing issues were bad.

*Lyric and mood sync were right on the money (exactly my favorite type of editing as well ;) ) Like Crack said too, it matched, yet wasn't totally cheese-filled.

*Lip Sync = Meh....

4.25/5.00

Keep up the good work.

for a first video, i think it was pretty well done. lol considering it wasn't annoyingly whored with effects, this really was good.
yes yes, the quality of the video needs work. "Deinterlace" a wonderful word.
