Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
- Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
- Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
- When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
- Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

My First AMV
Well, it has been up for a little while but I thought I might mention it here in the forums in case anyone is interrested in taking a look.
This is a "Newsreel" style video that tells the backstory of the Original Gundam series. I worked up my own newspaper and magazine pages to give it a "historical" feel and tried to use the very best animation I could find from some of the Playstation Games, since, as much as I love it, Mobile Suit Gundam looks pretty tired animation-wise. Hopefully it will give folks a glimpse of what makes the Gundam Universe so compelling to me.
It is a bit of an experiment, in style and content, and has had mixed reactions. Gundam fans seemed to really love it, but others seemed to be pretty luke warm about it. It did make this year's Animazement AMV contest, despite all it had going against it, which I am rather proud of.
I would be interrested to hear what folks think, even if it is "the file is too big" or "it is better to post it in such and such a way." I'm very interrested in learning the ropes here...

I highly suggest this guide:

It tells you and gives you everything you need for the technical site of amvs.

Right... so the size is definitely an issue. Sorry, this was the original file used for contest entries. I will go ahead and compress it for web. I was afriad it might be too big for most to download, but I kept it large due to all the text. I wasn't sure how readable that stuff would be if it were compressed too much.
Compressing now.
And thanks to those of you that did make that long download...
Edit:
The new file is uploaded and should be available soon. It is aound 40mb in size, so hopefully that will be much much more convenient for you all ^_^

Yes, I found a number of codec packs that support Divx. I had hoped that this would not be a problem for viewing, as it seemed to be somewhat common, and turned out to be a great compression format for making the file much smaller while keeping the text largely readable.Seska1973 wrote:There is an Divx codec out there... With almost all, you can watch it. Even if you take WMP for it.Falconone wrote:You made a divx file?
That is not very good, best thing is avi or mp4
With which player i can watch divx? VLC?
I am obviously not very practiced in publishing files to the web. Is Divx a no-no for amv's in this type fo venue, as a rule?

And as far as the codec goes, you're right (though I'm sure XviD is still better). The problem is the container format you chose; if you'd taken the same DivX video stream and put it in an AVI file instead of a .DIVX file, nobody would have complained.Gundam_Muse wrote:Yes, I found a number of codec packs that support Divx. With the possible exception of Minion, who wants nothing less than x264 in MP4, but I think he's currently banned, so.
