AMV Editor Rigs Through The Ages

Post by Kionon » Thu Apr 29, 2010 7:13 am

In honor of SQ's return, because she started the damn trend... So for the last several years, according to my researching, we have had a number of "post your rigs/AMV cribs" threads. Choose one picture from every major upgrade/change since you began editing (or began putting pictures of your rigs online) so that we can marvel at how far the hobby has come in terms of hardware over the last decade.

1998-1999:

On the left is my purple 1998 VAIO 333MHz Celeron Minitower with 64MB of ram (Utena Story of a Girl was made on this, first with Ulead Media Studio in 1999, later revamped sorta in 2001 on the computer on the right), during college it ran a Red Hat Linux web server, and people could directly access my box via http at chibiusa.wox.org (chibiusa is the name of the computer) and download my vids, since at the time, broadband was so new, the college gave each ethernet plug an actual static ip.

The computer on the right would be Usagi, and it had at one point been a 1999 Compaq Presario, but was heavily frakensteined by the time this photo was taken. It was my main editing machine

They would both last until 2002 for other purposes. Servers mostly.

2000 (I'm the one pointing):

Play trinity, proprietary system on WinNT. Linear A/B editing from svhs decks.

2001-2002:

Sony Vaio FX series laptop. This is the laptop that made about half my 2001 videos. She was stolen in April 2003. Not 2002, as I originally posted (I found documentation).

2003-2004:

I appear to have no pictures during these years. This was when I became a midshipman and had almost NO contact with the Org, and although I did have a self-built tower, I didn't use it for editing much. I think I made Minmay's a Bitch 1.0 on the computer. No pictures of it. At least, haven't found any.

2005:

First year with the Mac Mini.

2006:

2007:

Moved to Korea. Bought a Samsung 22" SyncMaster.

2008:

Fuck Korea. Immah moved to Japan. Also, Hotaru goes from running VistAIDS to Mac OSx86 10.5.2 Leopard.

2009:

I know I said one, but I wanted to show the difference in the living room after I got the MacBook and the Apple Cinema Display, and later, when I got the Panasonic HDTV:

2010:

Now with more ram, more harddrive space, a firewire dock, and oh yeah, an iPad.

Fin.

Nostalgia takes on many forms. Some odder than others. :uhoh:

Actually, I scoured all the previous threads for these picture (those that the links actually worked for). I did not have them "on hand."
