I agree to the definition of amvs, you use art in a duplicate manner - music and anime and therefore tribute to the source in a way.
when trying to make so-called art - if being effects or original stuff in amvs, you go beyond the definition but in a sense deny amvs AND art as you're attempting to get others original stuff to express your own originality.
reflecting this idea on myself, I can easily be one of those fx-whores as far as amvs go, but- seen on an artsy level, I'm simultaneously creating a video entirely based on my own original animations therefore creating art in itself, which makes the expression of originality and personality legitimate - not ina law-type manner, but in an artistic sense.
amvs are so far not more of a byproduct although I take the community I'm wavering in quite seriously.
original art is the way I am and will express myself with. I doubt there'd be a change to that although it takes a fucktons of time to finish stuff. a nice bonus effect of learning all the fx programs like I do is the fact that digital manipulation, colouring etc of your original art becomes easier - which then validates learning these programs to be an artistic progress in a way.
my thoughts on the topic - more or less. I guess I could go in detail, but I'll leave it as is for now.
