What do you prefer to start with lyrics or instrumental?

Post by genestarwind21122 » Sat Nov 12, 2005 10:22 pm

Well I just started working on another amv right now and I was wondering what you guys did for the most part. The amv I'm working on is an action/dramatic video. I usually start with the lyrics to get my story/feeling for the video down first. Then I base the instrumentals off the lyrical parts. Do you find it easier to start with the lyrics to give you a basis or do you prefer have free run with the instrumentals first?

hey whats up gene.choose the scenes that match the lyrics. then go back and edit them syncing to the beats. the music is the pulse of the vid, so beat sync is key. so what are you working on? its been awhile.

Um, I always just start with the beginning of a song.

I know that. I mean things have changed alot since I first started editing. I'm realizing more key and detailed things. Then there's the point of going overboard with beat sync. Anyways what I started to work on is the lyrics first and then going back to do the intro to the video and touching up the beat sync after finding the right scenes. I would like to keep that hidden for now as it is my Otakon project. It'll probably not be finished until February. I can let you know that the video is going to be using multiple animes crossing on realm to the other.

I'll be releasing Outlaws Don't Stop soon. I've had it finished for a few weeks now but I just can't get the darn thing to compress right with virtual dub and TMPEG just willn't compress it enough :? . Well that's another story.

I was just curious to see how you guys get started on your videos. Which parts you normally work on first. I've kinda of fallen into the pattern of doing the first verse of the lyrics and then going back to the instrumental part.

whichever that happens to fall on the part of the song that inspired the video in the first place.

I usually start by filling in the parts that repeat, say a particular lyric, or song beat sequence that I'm going to use for bridges. EG: Fiire! gets repeated, so I put in those increasingly flamey fire scenes and work toward the middle of all my preset scenes. If I don't like them, then I just scrap it and start over. Anything that's already set in stone, like the end of the song where it fades out, or the introduction gets marked off to make the actual work area smaller.

I usually start where ever I want to start....

on Pretty Sparkles I didnt get the idea for the opening untill AFTER I finished some of the lyric sync,

some projects I start at the beginning, some I dont, usually start at the beginning...

on Here Kitty kitty I started in the middle something around "sleep for a while" or something..

basically whatever I really feel I want to do first :)

ditto

Usually, there is something in a song that inspired the whole idea in the first place and I try to capture that moment first to get the inspiration down so that I can work on the rest of the frame of the AMV.

Then it usually [d]evolves from there...
