What are the things you don't like about a-m-v.org, the AMV community, current trends, ect ect? Try to be constructive

I'll start off with probably my biggest gripe:

I don't like the fact that as an AMV editor, your audience consists primarily of people 13-18 years old. These are the people giving reviews, these are the people controlling the top10, these are the people who decide whats cool and whats popular. This age bracket is effectively driving the community to create what it wants by rewarding such with (relative) fame and status. The Top10 is filled with formulaic nonsense that is about as artisticly stimulating as two ladybugs fucking.

What don't you like about all things AMV?

i dont like the fact that if your video doesnt contain rock music or an anime thats well known it doesnt really get the recognition it might deserve.

What I hate are old farts bitchin' about our taste in music while they have no taste of their own...oh, wait, I >am< the board's old fart.

Actually, what I hate is all of the scoring systems...the 10%, the star scale, opinions...anything to give someone a reason to be underhanded and give out crappy scores or to boost their fragile ego if they can bump their video up a pont or two after creating fake accounts.

I wish the entire score system would be done away with. Simply have a running list of winners from major cons. That and the Recommended Videos list is the best way to keep up with the true 'best of' videos.

I don't like the fact that AMVs are elevated above the fanwork that they are into "art".

Art, in its broadest meaning, is the expression of creativity or imagination, or both.

I've just never seen fanwork as art in the sense that it is as legitimate as normal art. A lot of that fact has to do with my perception of anime fandom and the general culture that accompanies it, so I don't expect anyone to mesh with this idea.

Well, for one, I don't believe my AMVs are fanwork - not for anime, anyway.

I hate the scoring system, but especially the rewarding of points for "originality" with a passion. "Originality" as such is, in a perfect world, no more encourageable than its' reverse.

The elitism and assumed professionalism of some people gets on my nerves; along with the general overly-techy and highly competitive tendencies that I occasionally see in the community.

On the .org, 2 years on, I'm still not sitting too well with the departure of the OT section. Something's been missing here as far as this being a real "AMV community" since it was dispensed with.

I keep writing ".org culture considered harmful" screeds, and then not posting them. This is better, because there's usually a lot of very unrefined hate in them, and getting such out of the system is the real point of the exercise.

What I don't like about a-m-v.org are, among other things, the following assumptions:

- There is a single AMV community
- AMVs are per se anime fanworks
- AMVs are inherently new creation
- The value of certain numbers on the internet matter
- Vox populi, vox dei
- The guide process is unilaterally the right process

".org culture considered harmful" screeds take form when I lose patience with these assumptions. They get not posted when I calm down and realise that it is only important that I reject them; heeding those who don't is never strictly necessary.
