Why all the fuss in General AMV?

Post by OtakuMan22 » Tue Jul 26, 2005 9:01 am

Alright, this is starting to get really ridiculous!

Recently here in the General AMV forums, there have been rants, ravings, and temper tantrums thrown around so much that it's just driving me batty! I remember there being arguments on what makes good videos and the ethics and responsibilities of the Org members, and for the most part, these seemed like genuine topics of discussion.

Then things went downhill REALLY fast! Some people got upset at other peoples attitudes, or got so passionate over what goes into AMV making, that they make the "Dice Man" sound like a faith healer! That... is NOT good!

I admit that I have gotten a bit miffed in a thread, just as others have, and like most people, I calmed down and came to my senses. But now I see that there are still arguments flying left and right, and I REALLY want a cease fire of some sort to be called! These argument threads have gone from being genuine to pointless faster than a speeding bullet, and not only does that antagonize those that want to sit down and discuss matters reasonably, but it drives the mods crazy because I think they too think the topic is genuine and worth discussing, but are forced to lock it once talks break down!

So now that I've said all that, I want to get to the discussion part of this thread:

1) What EXACTLY are some of the issues that people have with the Org or the Org members that drives them to post rants that flame and ignite fires of rage and foul language?! Why do these hot topics agonize you so much?

2) Why do we care about what happens in the Org or not as far as policies go? The Org is a great place to share a fan based medium, but it is NOT our lives, our careers, or what we do for a living! I bet the people who run the Org have day jobs like everyone else! All the donations run this not-for-profit website, and I'm sure that donations or not, they have to work regular 8-5 jobs to maintain the site still!

So why get all worked up over something that's not what we really need to focus on?

I ask you Morton Condrachy!

And you just added your rant to it. Brilliant move.

You are very brave, senor. But I am afraid that is a windmill you are charging with your lance.

There always have been rants and complaints in this forum ever since this opened. Hell, I bet there were lots more before the Org implimented this phpBB forum format.

I wouldn't worry about these rants since I usually ignore (though sometimes I read them for my amusement). 8-)

You know, it seemed like a good idea to write this thread up at the time, but apparently trying to write this in the morning was not the best of ideas. Otherwise, I would have caught that.

Yes, I think you are right about that. Although thank you for the compliment.

Hmm, then I guess it's just my tired mind playing tricks on me again. Making me think there are more arguments and complaints going on now than there were before. Guess I still have more to learn.

Although thanks for taking it easy on me. Looking back at what I wrote, that too could have fanned quite a few flames. I guess finding out just what causes all the hoopla can only be done with careful observation and patience.

Pancho, I think it's time I settled down a little.

Yes, this is a self-defeating thread. Yes, it likely shouldn't have been posted. Yes, it's flamebait. But Otaku isn't entirely wrong either. I've been noticing as well that people seem to be really edgy lately in the forums (over the last month, if you want a timeframe). It's not just this forum. Everywhere I go, people are snapping at each other. I've been guilty of this myself at times. Moreover, the last month has seen a larger than usual influx of misplaced n00b threads and otherwise pointless threads. Most of all, the forums are just downright boring right now. There aren't any good threads right now, and it seem like nothing has caught my interest in a long time.

Well, those are my thoughts. No, I wasn't complaining, as some people might interpret it that way. If anybody wants to bitch me out about this, have at it. You'd only be adding to Otaku's point.

I think you just missed Sancho Panza's humor, Don Quixote.
