Special effects or no special effects

Post by Gallup » Sun Apr 17, 2005 8:28 pm

I was just wondering the kind of video people think is harder to make, one with tons of special affects or one that relied on nothing but precise timing throughout the video to make it flow? Personally, I think that a video that doesn't rely on any affects is harder to make, but I have always been interested in seeing just how others feel about this.

special effects videos generally take longer. non-special effects videos may be more difficult in achieving your desired visions/ideas/plans.

special effects vids rely on precise timing as much as, if not more than, non-effects videos.

There's nothing wrong with giving the right word for the right concept. "Effect" is a noun; "affect" is a verb.

In any case, I think videos that require extensive work take longer; effects have absolutely nothing to do with it. Challenges appreciated.

yea... you can make a video that is jsut effects, no thought, no concept, no nothing very easily and fast. while a well thought out video that uses simple cuts and fades can take much much longer. i've done both... the well thought out and simple video is much better :P

my argument is that effects mean another step to the amv making process. both effectsy and non-effectsy videos can be hastily made or slowly done. the effectsy video will have an additional step that adds on to the time required, however time-consuming that step may be.

But we don't -- the question was about effort required to edit, not audience reaction.
