Newbie: Asking Not So Newbie Questions (I hope)

Post by HexagonParanoia » Sat Dec 11, 2004 7:25 pm

Hello,
I'm relatively new here and was just wondering if metaphors in video making is any good. Supposedly im very "passionate" says my classmates(might be cause their dense :D). I'm still in the research phase of my first video, and have been watching all recommended videos taht have made a good splash.

I've watched quite alot, and these are the good blockbuster hits like Euphoria and Believe, by Koopiskeva and Proxy respectively :D. If there are any metaphorical videos, or any videos with some metaphors in them that turned out excellent would someone please give the name or post the link to it please.

Thanks,
Noobie In Distress

PS. I did this post perfectly not to look like a retard =D

If you liked Koop's Euphoria, check out his Through Time, Through Space. It has a lot more simplistic editing style than Euphoria, but it does a damn good job expressing the relationships between those two people of which I forgot the names. :x

I guess you can call that video metaphorical.

Try AD's Arima Shinjikun. Not only is it full of metaphors but it's description talks about the metaphors. It has a vagina reference (in relation to Shinji, always knew he was a pussy), memories of childhood, psychological reflection of self, themes even the creators doesn't understand (or at least won't admit to it), and the line 'Wow, wasn't that pretentious' to top it all off. What more can you ask of metaphors than an unknown pretentious self reflecting childhood genital fixation?

Oh, what about Nightowl's and gambitt's Playground Love?

You can say it's a very classy video.

Well I'm happy there are other videos out there besides the hack and slash (although I knew that).

Ive downloaded Otohikos one and getting Koops as we speak. My internet is slow but i believe ill have them all down by tonight and have watched them enough to actually have a good taste of this AMV style.

Regarding Playground Love, Ive tried downloading that before but when the download is complete it always ends up not appearing in my folder i selected.... -.-

Otohikos video was actually different compared to the ones ive seen so far and makes me wonder if ill need flashy effects in Euphorias video. The thing about Euphoria was that the flashy effects were added to an already great video with a great plot. However the really great graphical effects would of made Otohikos video less appealing in my opin.

Thanks for the constant help...

Did you watch The Wasteland and piss in your pants yet?

Speaking of which!
Oto's Destruction Dive is very metaphorical in my opinion.

Not quite, sorry :)

"Proxy" is the name of the account that used to be used for entering into the database videos by people who didn't have accounts here. "Believe" was actually made by Kevin Caldwell, who also did a famous "Engel" video with NGE and "It's a Beautiful Life" to Golden Boy (which actually isn't so great) and I don't know what else.

To fill you in on the Org's running joke concerning what happened to Kevin Caldwell and where he is now, I suggest this fine video. :)
