Ok, lets try it this way then. What makes an AMV bad?

Here's my idea of what, at least for me, distracts from the quality of an otherwise good AMV.
  • Subtitles that have nothing to do with the music or the theme.

Watermarks from various video players (like DivX) or TV stations.

Showing a character talking to someone without lip synching or having anything to do with the theme or music.

Having no theme or no discernable match between the music and the video.

    Too many effects.
In my opinion, as a rank amateur, these are things you should avoid.

Others?

Don't forget interlacing artifacts and nasty color dulling from recompressing the vid way too many times before exporting the final version.

People questioning AMVs to the point of not making it fun anymore.

Ignorance, can in fact, be bliss.

Ah, another hater of the good old-fashioned lip-flap movement. ;p

It drives me nuts, especially since it's so prominent - even in 'pro' vids. They'll have everything so pretty, but there's that mouth flapping away. If you can edit that out in wmm, anyone can edit it out - and easily, most of the time. No more excuse for that than there is for interlace lines these days.

But it's not a new-creator problem. It's an amvs in general problem. One of my pet peeves, it drives me nuts. ^_^;

I think an amv is bad when it sucks.

OHHH...
burn

Amvs are bad when people put trailers for their next amv at the end of the one you just downloaded.

1 minute of video, 2 of a trailer for the next.

I'm not averse to lip flap if the scene would look even worse or more awkward with none, or if the story dictates that the characters should have some kind of conversation.
