Sometimes the video just doesn't live up to the idea, huh?

Post by inthesto » Sun Nov 07, 2004 7:10 pm

You know, you have an idea you think will kick ass, but after you edit for a little while, you realize it's nowhere near as cool as it's supposed to be.

Maybe it's a good thing that 90% of my videos don't even get to the "opening up Premiere" stage.

It may be that your editing skills don't match your ideal video.

Better place for whining about how bad your editing is than here.

Oh come on, you guys are lying to yourselves if you haven't thought of something you couldn't do. It doesn't have anything to do with your editing skills, it has do with how you see things in your mind as opposed to how those things would look through your eyes. It's the same thing with dreams; most dreams are too obscure to be portrayed accurately unless you somehow manage to write the entire thing down immediately after waking, and even then it usually pales with how you remember it being. And that has nothing to do with your writing skills.

Or you just don't have the right equipment for it, or the timeframe anytime soon.

Yeah that's happened to me before. Now I make it a habit to outline most of an amv before I start on it. Or I at least plan out the key sections - which, if successfully made, will keep up my motivation to fill out the rest of the video.

And some videos exeed your wildest expectations. Just let the video change as it will and don't try to force it into your preconcived ideas and it will turn out alright.

I don't think that this is a matter of editing skills ...

Something like that happened to me many times, I think that I gave up more than 6 vids projects by now.
Here some of the reasons why I erased a few projects from Premiere :

- The footage that I had it in mind to use , doesn't looks good as I thought it would be if played with the song of my choice .

- A part in the song that I don't have footage to match lyrics , and the sound can't be edited.

- In a comedy vid , the visuals and sound rolling together wasn't funny.

Um , yeah I think that the problem with me , it's a lack of imagination/creativity... that means that my videos are more to technical than to art ? I don't know , but definitely , it's not hard to feel when a AMV creator has a good imagination to make things looks nice , that's a kind of gift and I'm not one of them :P
Nothing usefull here .

Yeah, I've had that happen once or twice. What you can envision mentally can lead you to believe a certain combination would work incredibly well. But when you actually put the idea into motion, you're faced with the actual restraints of the footage; some scenes don't last as long as you'd remembered them, some don't fit the mood well, there are too few of a certain situation, etc,... But, it's certainly not the end of the world. If it isn't working out, either find a way around that obstacle or cut your losses and move on. That's my take on it, anyhow.
