How in the hell can a poor AMV maker get on VCA?
I have nowhere near the amount of money to pay for a fancy program like Adobe Premiere. All I have to go on is Windows Movie Maker 2. Unfortunately, that rarely catches the eye of many people.
I notice that nearly all, including whats-his-face's Shameless Rock Video, have some sort of heavy Effect work inside them. How in the hell can a WMM user possibly compete with that?

I think part of your problem is that you're looking to compete with people. The goal of every editor should be to make videos for fun; not to directly compete with another editor or specific video.Pyle wrote:I have nowhere near the amount of money to pay for a fancy program like Adobe Premiere. Ian didn't start out making videos like Shameless Rock Video. Check out some of his earlier stuff. Most of it is just simple, straight-forward editing (which you're more than able to do in WMM). When the time comes (meaning the need arose to move onto other programs), people move on to other utilities (IE - programs).

Talk to geeks. Geeks have software out the wazoo. My Network Admin (The Admin o Doom, aka Preacher3380x) gave me Legit copies of Premiere 6.0, 6.5, and just recently Premiere Pro.
Tech TV did a special on $99 dollar Video editing software, and the sony proggie is actually decent.

Don't worry about the VCA's... just make your AMVs.
I was nominated for a VCA and my computer is pretty ancient... and I don't have a program that can do all those cool effects and even if I did, my computer would never be able to handle it.
Hell... it can't keep up with the editing program I do use!

You can't - unless you're good with Photoshop and animating without frame-by-frame accuracy. But keep in mind, as good as that vid was, and as inspiring as Euphoria is for effect lovers - effects won't make a video. Sure, you may get some wows from the easy viewers, but most people require something to go with those effecst. The reason Euphoria is top on the list here isn't because of the effects - it's because those effects are added to something that's already good. By themselves, effects are meaningless.Pyle wrote:I notice that nearly all, including whats-his-face's Shameless Rock Video, have some sort of heavy Effect work inside them. Besides, one of the best vids I've seen had no effects except crossfades (which given...you can't do even that in wmm, but you can come pretty close). Beowulf's 'Imagine'
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=22552
Watch that and tell me if you don't think it's an excellent drama (or sentimental vid) that could do well in the VCA's - and then imagine recreating it on wmm 2.0 - it's possible. The vid wouldn't be quite so smooth without frame-by-frame accuracy, but the editing itself is very straightforward. That vid could have been a wmm vid and it doesn't make one bit of difference. It's a great vid that doesn't need flashy effects.
I'll repeat what a few members like to say - "it's the editor, not the program he's using." If you want effect vids you'll have to get Premiere or get creative. But you don't need Premiere to make a good amv - that's an amv myth that simply isn't true.
