7933 d/l and only 12opinions?

Post by danielwang » Mon Dec 15, 2003 4:41 pm

I'm looking at a few video entries here, and...

Ok, gee. Don't you just love it when there's 7933 downloads and 12 opinions?!? Or 129 downloads NO opinions? There should be at least 3 for every decent video.

If you see a video that doesn't have many opinions, are you more likely, less likely, or just as likely to review as a video with lots of opinions?

I know it seems a bit "commie" socialist and biased, but I do hat, to an extent. If I see a video and I have something to say about it, I give an opinion.
But one that doen't have as many ops ? I'm more likely to op than for, say, for "Euphoria-Koop-Will-Be-Busy-Reading-His-500-Plus-Reviews".

( Unless, of course, the video sucks. I ignore videos that suck, because they don;'t deserve opinions. I mean, what's with the WMV7 encoded Linkin Park/Creed/U2 etc rock music and action vids that doesn't have theme, thought or anything? It's be much simpler to meter out the Donut based on ratings! So videos like mine won't contaminate it. )

Even for vids that suck (almost especially for these) I try to review them, as most are made by new creators, so that they may not make the same mistakes next time.

Dude, you're not supposed to reply to danielwang's posts, that only makes him think we care...

Yeah, but sometimes he says something relevant and that is worth replying.

Nothing "commie" about that. I wouldn't say that any specific number of opinions is too much or too little, though, except for none at all. I wouldn't want to read too much more than the first dozen or so if I had that many on mine. None at all, however, creeps me out in direct proportion to the number of downloads one has to divide by zero. (Are some infinities greater than others? It sure seems so.) In any case, I think Phade ought to add an "infinity list" to his "most under-rated" featuring the videos with most embarrassingly high number of downloads without so much as a single opinion given in return. 129 downloads, especially over a year's time, is chump change by this organization's standards, but 300-400 downloads in a single month definitely deserve at least 1 opinion in return!

It's been mentioned before that creators who have a video that has tons of downloads and no opinions can op themselves, if they want, for to get on the Most Underrated list.

Off topic: Will the wonders of this forum never cease? Yesterday we had the introduction of two Profile buttons, and now donators' donation statuses are showing up. I wonder how soon until there's a gender option included...

That's a very good question, and I for one would be interested in seeing how people answer it.

I used to think, a video with a lot of opinions isn't going to get anything from me - what are the chances that I'll say something the creator hasn't heard before in the other reviews? I know people complain about getting told the same thing over and over. But then, I enjoy every non-flame review I get, whether it merely reinforces a point someone else brought up, or says something new

And I've heard at least one person remark on how nice it was to get a review for an older video when none had come in for a year because it already had 30+ reviews.

If a video is new and has few reviews (or the creator has few reviews in total), I feel obligated to make a helpful review for that video - because I know the chances are the editor could use some useful feedback. But I also review vids that have hundreds of reviews - just because I don't think I'd ever want to say "I already have some for this vid, no more wanted" - I don't put a limit on my own, so I wouldn't put a limit on someone else's. Unless the creator makes a note in the vid description saying "don't bother to review this, I already know everything I need to know about this vid" - I'll keep the video until I review it.

I've ignored vids before because they had a lot of reviews, and I don't want to do that anymore. It isn't fair when I review everything now. Yes, someone with only a few reviews could use the feedback more, but I think you should review every vid you keep - or in my case, every vid you watch. Now the only question is which vid to review first - in that case, I start with the ones that have the fewest reviews and work my way up. ^_^;

I write opinions when I feel like it :\..

It's not biasd, though,
if I do like a video ALOT, I'll give it an opinion,
if someone askes me to give an opinion specialy, I'll give one (hell, aim me, or im me and I'll give you an opinon for free if you want one :\ i've done it before),
if I open a station for op'ing videos myself, I'll give one.

Simple.

At 1am in the morning, I don't like giving op's (I sound even MORE stupid then, and you don't want THAT) and if I op'ed every video I saw, I'd have no time for jessica, so yeah..

And the fact is, I really only have time for it after about 11pm, except for saturdays and sundays...

I've givin' 53 opinions, and they where pretty short (my average is 193 words).

So yeah.. just my 2 cents.
