Besides, think of the possabilities inherent in an editing Beowulf cluster! You know you want it.... Rendering measured in 1000's of frames per second...
I'm perfectly happy with my dual Athlon :). I can wait 5 minutes for a render in AE (unlike the 11 hours Rozard goes through ;))

FlipStart PC...WinXP, 1 GHz, 30GB, 256MB...and tres kawaii.
Not my editing machine; they're not for sale yet. But two of these might make for a challenging Iron Chef session (with or without external monitors). Quu could carry both in his pockets.

On topic...up to now I've been using a 2-year-old Shuttle SS51G with a 2.53GHz P4. This week I ordered parts for a new machine. It'll be another Shuttle - SB61G2. Not the best-looking Shuttle, but it has a 23% rebate on it.

That will hold a 3.0 GHz P4 which is where the price-performance break (GHz per $, most bang per buck) is for P4s these days.

It will also have a DVD drive this time (an old A06), so I will have a chance to try working with ripped, instead of captured, footage.

My first editing system back in 1999 was...

Pentium 1 200ghz
3 gigs of HD space
64 MB of ram
32x CD-ROM
4X CD burner
CPH030 TV Tuner card hooked up to my old 1988 camcorder that couldn''t play EP tapes

Win 98SE
Adobe Photoshop 4
Adobe Premiere 3.0 LE
Paint Shop Pro 5
Xing Mpeg Encoder

---------------------

Now I work with.... a 3 year old outdated system with some minor tweaks

1.5 ghz amd athlon xp
512 MB ram
ATI Radeon 9000
120 GB (main HD)
120 GB (Storage)
DVD-ROM
Pioneer A-06 DVD-R

Win XP Pro
Adobe Photoshop 8 CS
Adobe Premiere 6.5
Adobe After Effects 6
Paint Shop Pro 5 (I don't care what anyone says, PSP5 is the best version)
Adobe Illustrator 9

Alot of people wonder how the hell I work with such outdated equipment. It's all persistence

I've lasted far longer on my systems that most of my friends who upgrade every year. 8)

Simple enough,

My own computer, aka. "Space Groove"

Athlon XP2400+
512MB DDR533 RAM
GeForce FX5200 128MB DDR (looking to replace it with a 6800GT, but no money yet)
80GB HD
15" LCD monitor
16x DVD ROM drive

For software, Premiere 6.5 and Photoshop 7 are about all I use - well, and the standard stuff. My brother's system, which is also involved in some of my editing/exporting/testing, etc. is aka. "Basement Rig" (no longer in the basement) and has

Athlon XP1800+
512MB DDR466 RAM
GeForce Ti4200 128MB DDR (this card is great. I wish I had that in place of the deceptively-numbered 5200, which is almost twice slower in reality)
80GB HD
15" LCD monitor
16xDVD ROM drive & 40x Samsung CD burner

That's about all
