I've found that below a certain score threshold the replies tend to die off regardless of how detailed or constructive the opinion is.x_rex30 wrote:I get replies to almost all my opinions and most of the time reply to opinions given to me.. unless it's a very short one or the opinion feels pointless. so this isn't a problem to me

I probably especially reply to ones that have a low score but a very detailed, constructive op. Usually those are the ones that I feel I should explain more for (not trying to change my score, but just letting them know what happened) and the ones I feel I should thank more for the honest op and the constructive critism/advice. But if they leave a low score and just a "It sucked!", that's a different story. I usually don't leave replies to ops like that that should be a QC.madbunny wrote:I've found that below a certain score threshold the replies tend to die off regardless of how detailed or constructive the opinion is.x_rex30 wrote:I get replies to almost all my opinions and most of the time reply to opinions given to me.. unless it's a very short one or the opinion feels pointless. so this isn't a problem to me

see I'd think differently about the 'it sucked' opinions. It IS not constructive for you, but it shouldn't be a qc unless it's just like all 1's. Cuz maybe the viewer doesn't know how to express himself, but he can still think it sucks. He just wants to warn others that it sucks. I don't know, maybe I'm just a sap like that ;p. I normally reply to something that shows thought in the RATEINGS given, thankyou for your rateings, but next time make your comments more clear. I'd always hated QCs and thought them pointless, but...wurpess wrote:I probably especially reply to ones that have a low score but a very detailed, constructive op. Well,a lot of months ago, before the addition of quick comments, the problem of very short opinions was really a pain in the ass. But,nowadays,I don't believe that they are so common(even though they still exist).
After all,why bother give an opinion with 5 words and spend 2 minutes instead of giving a comment and spend half a minute?
That's the reason after all that the number of opinions has decreased!!
Anyway, because a lot of people stated it,I also don't write a lot when replying to short or idiot opinions. You op with 3 words,I reply with one.Pretty fair and it shows that I appreciate even these 2 minutes spent on the opinion.
As for extensive opinions,I appreciate them but I get bored reading them(although I still finish reading them). What's the cause of writing 15 paragraphs as an opinion?

If it takes fifteen paragraphs to get my point across, then I'm going to write fifteen paragraphs. : / Also, if you can't read a long opinion without being bored, then you obviously have no attention span.Full Metal Sempai wrote:As for extensive opinions,I appreciate them but I get bored reading them(although I still finish reading them). What's the cause of writing 15 paragraphs as an opinion?
General irritation aside, the reason I, personally, write long opinions is because you can never be sure if the editor is going to understand what you're talking about. For example... "aspect ratio." A newbie using Windows Movie Maker and fansubs might not have a clue what an "aspect ratio" is. So, I might have to say, "Your characters look squished flat/stretched out," or, "It keeps shifting between widescreen and fullscreen, and you need to either put borders on the fullscreen, or crop everything down to widescreen." I would then probably say, "You should check out the AV Tech guide on this site in the How To Guides section, becaue it has tons of good technical information and it'll explain how to help with the shifting aspect ratio."
I'm sorry, but there's no quick way to say that without being incoherent. From what you're saying, all you want is "this was good, that was bad" kind of opinions. Complaining about the detailed ones says to me that you don't want constructive criticism or helpful advice.
No, a long opinion does not always equal a helpful one. However, I believe that at least the long opinions I write are useful. If they're not, or if they bore you, then by all means, tell me - but until then, I feel like I need to explain the scores I hand out. If that makes them long-winded, then so be it. I'm sorry if people don't like that.

Firstly, why do you even apologise?dj_ultima_the_great wrote: If it takes fifteen paragraphs to get my point across, then I'm going to write fifteen paragraphs. : / Also, if you can't read a long opinion without being bored, then you obviously have no attention span.

If long opinions can express your thoughts better, then so be it.Noone blames you for that.I just made my point about long opinions,it's not like there is a right and a wrong way to op.I may not like their size, but that doesn't downgrade them concerning their helpfulness. On the contrary
Secondly,I didn't say I like short opinions. The assumption is all yours. After all, there is a huge gap from "15 paragraphs" opinions to "5 words" opinions.
And,quite irrelevant, very good pic of Heather in your profile.

Since when does being bored while reading an opinion mean weak attention span? Attention span means still concentrating on it. It doesn't mean you have to be all hyped up and shit while reading an opinion. But yeah, most long opinions get boring due to repetetiveness and aren't getting straight to the point because they're too busy making references on how you can improve on one thing. So I agree, most long opinions suck ass and I WILL close the window on them once I see what you're trying to say.
