Not to sound like a defeatest (sp) but what can really be done. Don't get me wrong, I totally agree with all of you. I hate it when people steal my footage especially if i'd worked so hard on the video itself. But what can really be done. In order to fix the problem, we'd ahve to basically go through the entire library of videos and compare alike videos with their release dates etc. The ammount of time and effort it would take to do that is beyond me. From what I can tell, AD isn't a machine and neither are the rest of the mods. It would take them forever to look through all the old vids, and by the time they had all the old vids taken care of, there would be a slew of new vids that have done the same thing. It almost sounds like a full time job plus overtime. It's a sad sad world that our AMV's aren't safe in the public. But what're u gonna do. :?

No one ever asked that the mods or anyone else be responsible for looking through videos. All that was asked was that something be done when videos are reported - that's all. Sure, you get complaints about once a month, maybe once every few months - and that could be a hassel for one day out of 60, but it's not asking for a lifetime commitment or anything.

And Paizuri responded to the complaint, so there's no real problem. The general members might support reproducing other people's videos with your name on them, but as long as at least one member of the administration responds to complaints, the site itself is against the practice.

There's nothing to argue about now except why some people support reproductions. Makes you wonder if they've done it themselves or plan to do it in the future. Some are practically patting plagiarists on the back for knowing how to import and export with switched audio.

I propose that if anyone gets caught commiting global plaugurism, they be permenetly banned and their entire catalog be purged. End of story.

And if you rip off scenes from someone elses video, the offending video be deleted. Repeat offenders be perma banned.

I'm tired of it.

I tried that. :(

The first person I found plagiarising my vids (and never reported since I was afraid of the forum at the time) used my very first noob-to-the-max crap-quality-out-the-wazoo amvs. Now that's just sad. But as long as they think it's okay, they'll do it.

Ah, me thinks I can put an end to this thread...

I kind of understand the guys position. My first 2 amvs were made from footage taken from other peoples amvs. I released them on my own ftp for a while, but I don't have anything to do with them now. I never uploaded them. Also, for the most part, I only took scenes, I never kept more than 2 cuts from the original amv. (well, ok my second one did maybe 4 cuts at the most, but I'm never taking responcablity for that, and if you can find a copy of that piece of crap today, your pretty crafty.)

...Anyway, it sucks though, and uploading simply is bad taste. I don't think there is much to worry about though, other peoples ideas just don't work with other songs very often. I'd be more angry cause they made my cool video look like crap by putting it with the wrong music. (and then sharing it on the org.)

I want to take this in another direction for a min. though. I think everyone has done this. I took a classic dance video, and put it to different music. I heard this song, and thought it sounded just like the other song, and when I put it together, it worked even better than the original. (This would only work with dance videos, unless you were super luckily.) I never shared it with anyone, just showed it to some friends who knew about the first video. Would it be ok to upload (a small) copy of that video, if I give full credit to the original creator both in a bumper, and in the profile of the video? I guess it would come down to permission of the original creator. (but he's a bitch to get ahold of these days) ...I would even be willing to submit it as a proxy, I just want to share something I think is cool, but I don't take any credit for it. (and have not free space of my own)

...No it's not Kevin Caldwell. ^_^''
