you should never assume a video is going to be good based on number scores... because often times they will end up being either 1. too low or 2. too high.. because your opinion will always be different from the opinions of others....

or atleast my opinion is always different from what the number scores usually avarage out to.

This is why I don't look at scores when deciding whether or not to dl a vid - be they star ratings or op ratings. I read the descriptions, go by the word of mouth of others, and make up my own mind - does it look interesting enough to dl? If so, I do. And if the video sucks...well, that's my wasted time, no one else's. 'Cuz the simple fact of the matter is that not everyone on this site gives ops/stars the same way. Some people use them fairly, others op all 10s/star all 5s, others do all 1s because they're lazy, spiteful, you name it...the numbers just aren't reliable.

Case in point:
Cornwiggle wrote:Hmm, ALL 10s...that means that ONLY the creators have opinioned it, meaning that they weren't even good enough to get OTHER people to comment on it. I tend to avoid videos like that.
And what about the people who participate in op exchanges only with their friends or use other screennames to boost their op scores? In these cases, you have oodles of opinions from "other" people...but the same bias is still there. Are those comments from "other" people any more or less honest than those of the creator just because the screenname that left the op is different from that of the person(s) who posted the video?

Sorry, but I have to side with Jaddzia on this one...an op is an op is an op. It's up to the person who leaves it as to what kind of scores to assign. Maybe those 3 or 6 editors on these projects honestly felt the vids deserved all 10s. Maybe they were being generous because they're all friends...we don't know...but that doesn't mean that they don't have the right to leave the scores they feel best suit the video. I can understand, if you dl strictly based on op scores, how you might feel misled...however, that doesn't change the fact that those people leaving the opinions might actually have felt that the video was a straight 10...which means that in this case, your opinion differs from theirs.

My .02 - for what it's worth (cuz no one listens to me anyway :P )

Either way, I meant the same thing. Meaning they're not REALLY that good.

you know, one of my videos once got alot of attention from alot of fangirls, and well alot of them left me all 10 ops. I dont know a good number of the people who left opinions, and maybe 3 of the 50 some odd opinions I had actually ASKED for...

I have, at times, gotten several complaints of people telling me that the scores misslead them.... this is only one example of why i dont base a download on number scores...

The fact is the whole rating system for AMV's is based on the honor system, like one of those snack boxes that say "We put our trust in you!" Some people will pay for the snacks, some people will steal them. This is why I like ops that have somewhat detailed opinions. Where someone will take a good hard look at my video and say "Well this is one of your strong points, however, you didn't do this so well." I like the idea of the overall aspect of how people view my videos. I therefore don't rely on the actual ratings (Most of the time.) I have, once before, oped on of my own videos. Am I ashamed? No. Did I give it perfect 10s? No. I believe I oped it fairly, while I might be a little biased, that video has been out for a few years and I wanted to rate it. Just like I do with other peoples videos. I think the most people here a fundamentally correct, it's just much easier to ignore the rating and just read the actual posts.

And a lot of the times, that is exactly why participants in a MEP leave opinions, in that no one really cares... these people, by virtue of working together in their projects might have inevitably made friends with each other and all these opinions could just be friendly gestures or running jokes... certainly no real serious issue to be complaining about, imo.
Just in case you didn't know.....I give a damn. And so does X-rex, and so does everyone else who posted in this topic here within the past 1 day it's been up since they actually decided to comment on this isuue.

An opinion for yourself? Okay, I did it once from mistake when I first joined the site but at least I was honest. I even called the quality crappy and everything.....that was funny.....why did I say it like that in my opinion anyway, whatever. At least be honest. The only way I can really give out all 10's like that is if I somehow cry watching it, which has happened a couple times in both action and sentimental AMV's.

Well, if it is a "Multi-editor" project, that would mean that the person leaving the opinion was not the only one who edited the video, meaning they could still have an opinion on the OTHER SEGMENTS of the MEP.
