I tend to favor Romantic and sentimental vids. Ofcourse, I like a good comedy just as much aswell, but as one other poster mentioned, after a while the novelty wears off as the jokes become familiar. Esside from the fun ones, like Chibi things that kill. Those never get old for me. Fun and Upbeat happy vids are probably my second favorite.

Action and Drama, especially a mix of both if the song calls for it.
Very few Comedy videos can sustain enjoyment past 2 viewings, and it takes a really powerful song & clip combo to get any reaction out of Sentimental.
Upbeat is super-hit or super-miss, very rarely is there a gray area. The only time I even watch these is at cons, when I'm forced to.

Hmm... My absolute favorite... Drama. Drama with somewhat action-style editing, and a touch of romance or tragedy. Example. The videography works in time with the music to keep it from becoming uninteresting, rather than just letting scenes drag on and on. Two examples of each: Priceless by Norskotaku using RahXephon and Copeland's Priceless and Waking Hour by Koop using Beyond The Clouds and Vienna Teng's Gravity. Next, probably a well edited action video will satisfy me, or possibly a drama/action hybrid (off the top of my head, most known example would be Whisper of the Beast, even with how over-rated it's become because of all of the damn Narutards). Third from the top is comedy.

I am and will always be partial to action/drama. Sometimes I'm into comedy, though in terms of AMVs that's way hit or miss for me. I love videos like Kurt's Excel Pop Up vid, though, stuff that really pushes original boundries while still taking the time to be entertaining.
The best effects are the ones you don't notice.
