My friends call me "The Eye of a Lynx" when it comes to subtitles. 8-)

I think there is a plugin for Virtual Dub that removes subtitles (not sure on that though) but yeah I dont use that, I rip from dvd's.
Unless it is just a scripted cropper or soft-sub reomver, I don't think there's such a thing. If your subtitles are embedded into the footage, there is really no way to retrieve what was before.[/quote]

I'm glad my subs have a purpose. Though they still have a tendency to confuse. If ya get it, ya get it. Ya don't, ya don't. 8-)

Have you ever seen Puni Puni Poemy? Those are hardwired into that series of scenes, because they aren't saying anything useful, be it in Japanese or English. This is from the DVD.
yeah, i have, and i've seen super freaky hero....hmm...lets see....nope no subs in that....

and also, i have dloaded fansubs (i live in britain and don't have the money to import) and they don't have any japanese subs in 'em.....

methinks we have a bootleg....or are they actually hard-coded into the DVDs...anyone else own it?

I'm inferring that he meant that the only subtitles embedded into Puni Puni Poemi are Japanese written into the original animation.

If you've seen ADV's Evangelion dvd releases, they have similar things... Nasty buggers. :(

Had you looked at the picture, I doubt that there would be much confusion. Unless on the fansubs they subtitled over the Japanese subtitles in the military scene (you know, the one I linked a pic to. Also, it's the one in which all the characters besides Poemy say absolutely nothing useful: Giant Asparagus, Cherry Tomato, Fish Cakes, etc. You'll also notice that the Japanese isn't translated at the bottom), I'd bet that they're there. Jeez guy, I even said "series of scenes". Methinks you are just looking for an argument.

About Joykiller's video: he did an excellent job removing those. Hell, I almost didn't catch it myself. But if I can direct your attention to The Subtitle Removal Guide, section 2 to be exact, there is a method called "Selective Cropping" explained. Upon a side by side comparison of my picture and his video, you'll see that the footage seems "zoomed in." He used this method of sub removal, rather expertly too.

I might give that one a try, it looked pretty good on screen.
