It's hard to be funny or make something comedic. It requires wit, an understanding of truth, and other certain qualities that are just a bit beyond grasp.

Having said that, it really depends on what kind of comedy this thread is requesting. An explosion of funny but untasteful amv's, an unlikely idea certainly, would not be anything of benefit.

Talented creators hardly ever make comedy videos. They are fun to make an everyone likes them so make them goddammit!!

Well, I came in here to say "Comedy is hard, and you're lucky there aren't even more half-assed attempts by lam0rz," and lyrs said it a lot more eloquently.

So.

Good comedy is hard. Posting something public like this only encourages random idiots to make halfassed stabs at jokes, and as you said, bad comedy is everywhere.

Just to clarify, I do include myself in that 100%. I've never done upbeat vids, but I'm working on one now, and I expect it to fail spectacularly. Fools rush in, etc.

Hm.... It should be noted that instrumental vids seem to be in the beginning stages of a wave. Depending on how Animasia turns out, things may change.

Hmmm...looking for comedy?

Part of it all depends where you're looking...the top 10% won't always give you definite results

(I promised I wouldn't self-whore...but what the Hell, it'll serve as an example)

http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=35520 - This video, from what feedback I've seen in ops and otherwise, has generally been (surprisingly) well received
However, since it's made with an older, less-watched series, it doesn't get nearly as much exposure as, say, a Naruto comedy vid would...

Just cause you haven't seen them out there, doesn't mean they don't exist....

Sometimes, it's a matter of "are you looking hard enough?" You need to break out the cyber-pickaxe if you want to find the diamonds. Try looking for old or unpopular animes and songs, and lesser-known creators.

The last three videos I've done have been comedy (well, Mugiwara no Evangelion is more "WTF?!" than comedy...) And I'm currently working on yet another. I'm contributing a little to it, I hope.

Being a failed pretentious auteur myself I think I can safely say that while it might be better to be a successful popularist the absolute BEST thing to be is a successful pretentious auteurs. That way we get the ego boosting fan worship but we can still show our faces at coffee houses throughout the land without anyone screaming that we should be ashamed to wear our berets. Now all I gotta do is figure out how to be a successful pretentious auteur. Maybe I should start including haikus in my videos or something.
But the moment you become successful the uber pretentious auteurs will claim you've sold out/dumbed down/whatever and are no longer one of them.
