I really like this video and how intense it makes the source look. The art style doesn't look intense, but the editing, song, and scene selection literally turns this into something far more than what I think the source is.

My thoughts exactly, any video that can make ballet look and sound this badass, deserves the title of masterpiece.

Well no I agree, but that's because the video would have been poorly made. I mean if it had been a rapping video and put together well would it still be the same kind of "art" you see in this video?

What if the video source was edited to silence and put together well, would it still be the same kind of "art" you see in this video? How about if we use the same audio source but with a different video source with a different style of dancing and put together well, would it still be the same kind of "art" you see in this video? What if the video used the same video and audio source, but edited poorly, would it still be the same kind of "art" you see in this video? What if the house blew up? Would it still be the same kind of "art" you see in this video?

Clearly I think we're still asking the wrong questions here, as break dancing can be as artistic as ballet, it just varies from person to person. We shouldn't be asking whether if it's artistic or not, but why is it artistic to whomever watches it. Or something along those lines.

That's kind of what I was asking but in a less direct way.
I want to know why some people consider this to be more "artsy" than something else.
Or if people prefer what is it that makes this video particularily artistic to them.

"art" is too hard to define for me. Pour urine in a jar, put in a crucifix - is that art? Some people say so, some so no.

I just thought it was artistic because it was well put together and had a fantastic atmosphere and mood. Nothing makes it "more artistic" just because of its source of video or audio. It's artistic [in my opinion at least] because of how well it was edited and how well it flowed and matched the video/audio to our perception of how dramatic that dance can be.

You know I agree with all of this, and this is why I really like the video.
However, I'm not sure why people seem to think that this video is more "artsy" than any other.

I have heard many different people Hold this video above all others as proof that AMVs can be art but I just don't see it.
I mean I agree it's art, and I like the video, but I just don't get how it's more ART.

Perhaps someone can explain that to me.

When I heard about this video I was amazed that a Princess Tutu video won in Action category... so I had to check it out.. I had seen bits of tutu before the video and it was a cute but very slow paced (I'd seen early eps) so the fact that tutu won in action just didn't seem to fit. After watching it I thought: I wish I had thought of this idea...

I still enjoy this video, it's one of my favorites.

As for it being more art than other videos, I never saw it that way... I assume most people point it out in the same way they point out jihaku, whisper of the beast or euphoria as being art because all are extremely well done, this one just happens to be the newest thing out of all of them.
