a) I would go with song 1. While the song style might not fit the anime, it could become an oppurtunity to create something interesting and have some fun too.
b) Well, I don't like live versions...even if they are really good (haven't heard one yet =P) so I'd stick with the original.
c) Say hello to my video Grace.
While I had seen the movie, it was over 6 years ago and a barely remembered it. Also, I STILL haven't finished watching the series. Hell, when I first started clip harvesting the series, all I had watched was eps 1 and 2.

a) Song 1. I like messing with the general mood of the anime and showing it in a different light. Also, if given a choice between showing the original story of the anime and the original mood, I would choose the story (unless of course I had thought of a really awesome way to fudge the story/clips) Fudging stories can be messy, and while you can do an amv without a story and just beause it looks pretty, I usually prefer to have some kind of story, even if its a retelling of a part of the anime. I think messing with the mood is just a good way to show a different facet of the anime or just make people look at it a little differently.
b) If I could either edit the crowd out, or make them less obvious, I would use it. If I could make the crowd part of the vid, I would use it. Other than that, that would be a bit distracting, so I would just use the album ones. Maybe I'd see if I could edit in a really cool part of the live one. I don't know.
c) I generally don't have lasting ideas with anime I've never seen anything of. Ones I've only watched the first disc of, yes. But I usually will only make amvs with anime I've seen at least something of. And I only use DVD footage, so I will usually watch whatever my footage is before I do the vid. But hey, if someone can do a decent amv with an anime they've never seen, more power to them.

A) Either discard both songs and look for one that suits all my wishes or use Song B, trying to edit the not fitting parts of the song.
B)Why not using the live version? If you can integrate the action of the crowd into your AMV, where is the problem? In the moment I'm working on an AMV with a comparable situation. I use a song from an OST which has all the movie noise into it. It was released on CD that way, no clean version is available at all. But if you can't, stick with the normal version.
C)I never would do an AMV without watching the AMV at least once. How should a lyrics synch or a mood synch work if I don't know what's going on? Only from scrubbing through to select the scenes you can't always judge what's going on. So if you for example select a funny scene and match it to something sad, claiming it beeing a serious drama AMV and not a parody, what do you think, how will the reaction be from someone who knows the anime?

In my opinion, if you HAVE to follow lyrics, you are in 'newb' realm and are limiting your 'true' potential.
It's like a martial arts kata to me. It's one thing to memorize a form [remain in standard], but the highest form is done from nothing and created by yourself... ^_^

In many instances a band will record a new song, and then polish it during live performances.
I'd give an example, but I'm afraid half the music I listen to is an example. My favorite band is an example that proves it over (and over...) 90+ official releases.

Just to qualify - the quality is a different quality we're talking about. Yes, most (though not all) live recordings have poorer recording quality than professionally-produced studio albums, but at the same time have better quality of musicianship.

A) Since lyrics and lyric synch are extremely important to me, I'd lean more towards the first song and see if I could arrange the clips to fit the style of the song. However, that's not my preferred method...I'd much rather have a song with everything going for what I see in my head for the video, so in all truth, I'd probably scrap both songs and look for a song with lyrics like song 1 and style like song 2.
B) Album version. I've never been a fan of live versions overall, so I doubt a live version would hold my interest long enough for me to finish a video.
C) Never happened to me (yet). I always like to watch the anime prior to making a video to know the context of the scenes and to get an overall plot feel. For me, to make an amv without having seen the anime would be like flying blind...and I crash and burn enough as it is.

is this a bad thing?? These are the types that I ABSOLUTELEY LOVE, the ones where you come away with a 'WTF??' yet somehow satisfied feeling. Sometimes it's just a 'WTF, don't waste my time' feeling though, so you really gotta be carefull (and the line IS really vague anyway, like some may STILL see it as SPOT on while some may not). I dunno, do whatever pleases you best -_-
