Bad OP out of Spite? Guilty or Innocent

hmm, I guess that's one of the reasons that in opinion exchanges that I sign up for, I try to give one prior to posting, so I won't be biased by their review of my vid. But of course, then comes the problem that I'll be the one getting the bad review, but so be it.
I can't see writing a bad review out of spite, it's just a waste of keystrokes.

How am I "WHINY" ? I am asking people if they have had similar experiences where the opinion seems so off course that it knocks the video down a notch on scores. I had one experience, I wanted to know if I was part of the minority or majority here.requiett wrote:The most important thing when you get a lame review on your possibly justifiably lame video is HOW YOU TAKE IT. You can either be just as uppity and pretentious about it as the guy who's knockin' you and make WHINY forum posts about it, take the advice to heart and cater to sour-puss, no-talent critics, or JUST IGNORE IT. Route #3 definitely saves your face in "public."
Isn't that what a forum is for? Discussion? Maybe I'm wrong, I guess. Admins feel free to lock this thread.

ANTD, like people who consistently carry a negative tone about them, the best thing to do with a bad OP is simply ignore it. If it gets too much you can allways report it to an admin.
Something that im guilty off is not giving an OP unless I can give a decently lengthed one. Some vids I can talk about forever, while others I dont think I could manage a half decent 300 words or so, so I dont bother OP'ing. I guess its a problem with my ego, me feeling like a n00b if I write a comparitively short op.
Anyway, apart from one OP which was too generous, I havent had any realy bad experiences with ops.

I've never given an op out of spite/revenge/stupidy and don't plan to.
I have recieved one such op, however. This was ages ago, and it didn't really bother me, but I might as well mention it. It was from the Mad Hatter (for those of you who remember him, you probably see where I'm going with this). I'd opped his old Outlaw Star vid as part of an exchange after he'd opped one of my vids. I gave his synch a 6. After he read my op, he went back and editted all my scores from 7/8s to 5/6s, the apologised for initially inflating my scores.

The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

I've seriously debated giving bum a few bad ops because of how many times he insults me, but I digress.
I don't think I've ever given a biased opinion. All my ops are pretty much true to a fault, where people get mad at me. Now that I'm working, I try not to waste my time watching and oping videos that don't matter. (I.e. giving false ops).
SuperFusion actually AIMed me not too long a go telling me how he just about orgasmed many times watching "Naruto's Beat" or whatever the hell it's called.
So I went into that op rather biased.
The opinion actually turned out a little well, with next to no flaming. Had I actually bent down and outright flamed, I probably wouldn't have been as upset as I was when the thing didn't submit correctly.
I still need to write another op for that. The video was decent.
Meh, I dunno. I think I'm a little biased to AMVs using the song "Frozen" by Madonna.
I think it's because none of them can compare to an old favorite of mine, "Ice Blue" by Khandreia. Who retired right around the time I joined.
So I guess... Yes and no.. Not that anybody reads my posts. XD

I've never given an op out of spite or anything, In fact I've gotten less than favorable ops (compared to others to the same video) but still constructive and meaningfull, and ended up leaving a higher rating on their video in return since I honestly liked it. (ofcourse the oposite has happened aswell) I try not to be biased in any way and be totally honest in all my ops. And to make sure I don't stray subcontiously, lately I usually try to op the persons video in exchange before even reading the op they left me.

Have I wanted to? Yes. Have I? Not in revenge for a an undeserved op.
Now, that being said, am I biased?
Yes. Oh hell yes. You take a series and you use music that's inappropriate? You're going to hear about it. You try to make a character into someone he or she isn't or are generally unfair to that character? You're going to hear about it. You just blatantly ignore established rules? It better be artsy or experimental, because if it's not, you're going to hear about it.

Was it the "In Your Arms" video, or another one? I think I remember reading a not very nice review for that one...and laughing. x)Arigatomina wrote:I gave an op in revenge for a repetitive flamer once (not an exchange, this was back in 2003 before I tried the forums, he just flamed me for making his favorite characters look gay). He didn't respond to my responses, so I checked out his profile and got one of his vids to review. Since his flame made it look like he had no idea how to give a review, I went into explicit detail in the review I gave him, over 4000 words easily. I didn't lower the scores, though, so it was a legitimate review. I just vented my anger by being overly patient and a sickeningly helpful. Made me feel a lot better being the 'big person' in that little conflict. He never responded to the review, but he stopped flaming my vids for that anime, so that's something.
Once I decided to give a really stupid review full of like 3 pages of randomness for "The AMV Before Halloween", and they did the same exact thing back to me...it was awesome.
