So many ideas, so little skill

Post by HoshiStar » Mon Mar 27, 2006 6:40 pm

I realized recently that I have downloaded over 75 AMVs and have not yet made a single one :(

I love AMVs---matching songs to story concepts has always been one of my favorite passtimes--- but I do nat have the best computer skills nor selection of anime at my disposal...still when I get a good idea I want to see it so bad it hurts.

If I could, I would...Start a mother's/father's day project matching appropriate songs to anime, in the style of other holiday projects, such as the Valentine's day project.

Can anyone help me out? Steal my ideas and produce them? Please?

Ok, so these are the pair ups I have thought up...

Sappy:
1. Somebody's Hero by Jamie O'Neal (Kyoko/Tohru)

2. In My Daughter's Eyes by Martina McBride (Fluffy/Rin...I know, been done)

3. Dance with My Father by Luther VanDross (Tamahome & his dad, or "In my Father's Eyes" i think by Brian McKnight)

4.Because You Loved Me by Celine Dion (Tohru/Kira---some points: The songwriter of that song mentioned in an interview that she wrote it for her father. "You were my strength when I was weak/you were my voice when I couldn't speak..." It just fits Tohru & Kira's relationship so well)

5. Strong Enough by Sheryl Crow (Kyo/Shishou. I have always associated this song with a foster child/foster parent relationship, and it fits so well).

6. Mama by Boys II Men (Ed & Al to their mom, ok really sappy. But they are very much mama's boys.)

Sad/Angry:

Unbreak my Heart by Toni Braxton (Momiji to his mom, the Nazi Evil 'forgetful' woman. It's a song I always associated with parental abandonment)

Because of You by Kelly Clarkson (Yuki to Akito. Evil, Evil abusive Akito.)

Someone respond before I go on and hurt myself with embarrasment...

Last Idea

I personally like your last idea the most. I am a fan of the song, but, Which Mom in anime do you want or do you think you would do a compliation. I think I might try to make a mothers/fathers day AMV. But sense neither of my parents like Anime I think I'll go with a Halloween AMV. Although I have to real prior video editing experiance. Good thing is I have plunty of computer skills. Or at least I think I do. Im a P.C. Tech:-) And I have a collection of over 1300 Amv's. So needless to say I like them. Good luck on tring to make a AMV.

I'm sure that I could make something like this. But everyone has to start somewhere. You should try it out. Some people get the hand of editing right off the bat, others have to ease into it like myself, it took a while to get to where I am today, I'm not the greatest, but I like what I create. First and foremost, just make what you like to see. Match it to your vision as best as you can, and if you can't figure something out...ask, most people here are nice enough to give people advice or tell them how to do specific things. Not to mention quite a few guides that you can read. If your worried about messing up your vision of how an AMV should have turned out, there is no guarantee that we could do any better. We could use your concept, but you might watch the video and think...I would have put that there instead of the scene they used. In the end, it really comes down to what YOU want to see, what everybody else thinks is secondary. There are a few people who get into editing for the recognition, but a lot of us just like the creation process. Sure it's great when people like your videos, but nothing compares to the feeling of completing an AMV and going "It's beautiful!" with a tear in your eye. (Yes, this has happened to me a few times.)

I'd just go ahead and create on of your vision...who knows? You might have more skill than you think! XD

This is one of the best ingredients for a good AMV creator (or author or composer or any other sort of artist). Don't worry that your skills may not to be up to it: my first AMV was pretty sucky, many are, but it doesn't stop people from going on to become great.

If anything, i'd say that a hesitant, nervous start might be best. Some people just rush blindly into making AMVs, and don't notice they're crap until they have a dozen linkenballs under their belt :) So take your time, be as nervous as you like, and always remember that you can come and ask for help.

I know exactly how you feel. I just got Windows XP and now have movie maker, yay! ( I know, I've heard it's really crappy, but at least it's a start). The thing is, I can't get DVDs to work, and the DVD decrypter all the guides suggest don't work. I'm feeling much the same frustration.

What problems are you having with DVDs, gandy? There are many ways to get DVD footage. My usual way is to use DVD Shrink to grab a clip and the few seconds either side and then process it, and crop it further, in VirtualDub.

I can't even get the DVDs to play...I'm not sure which decrypter to download, and I don't have any money. The DVD decrypter the guides suggest is gone, so what should I use?
