Ok since your on of the most capabel editors here I think I should at least try to get something up here (altough I think you don't even pay attention to this anymore).
Since you always like trippy things I'd suggest you to work with Soultaker since it's already a very trippy anime and with the amount of FX you usually use it'll like a real drug trip. About the concept itself, well there are several ideas flying around in my head.
1st Would be a very fast action video focusing on the main character, ok this might be not really original but there aren't that much Soultaker videos out there so it might be ok and since it should have a very fast paced soundtrack it would be a challenge to sync it (ok it depends on the song though).
2nd would be something really experimental like using just a certain persons mind and let it look like a trip into someones brain (which was my original idea). So you'd have to begin with the scene where Maya injects Date the medicine and use a specific effect to simulate the person decending into his weird mind or something like that. Or let it look like his apocalyptic vision seeing himself fighing agaist the Kirihara corp. Since there are alot of strange sceneries and images which let you get the wrong idea if you don't know the series there are alot of possibilites for developing an artificial storyline.
3rd one would be a very calm video which might be a challende since you never made a drama or sentimetal video (at least none that I saw)and new things are always challenging. There are also alot of silent moments with alot of emotions it would also be easy to build up a dramatical storyline for example showing Date's fight against the changes of his own personality and things like that or his desperate will to help the flickers.
About the soundtrack well I have alot of different songs for each concept and since you don't really like "hard" music like "intelligent modern melodic deathmetal" most of'em would be none of your choice although they all contain what it'd take to create a challenging video cause most Dark Tranquillity songs for example are very complexed and use alot of electronics and fast rythms and possess a very dark mood which would be very suitable for Soultaker. I have alot of other tracks that might fit ... damn I'm tired of writing not even knowing if you really read this ....

Flint, yeah... I know Ayreon. They're pretty good. I'm opposed to doing anymore Eva stuff though. I was hesitant to do ONE as it were. Your idea's not bad though.
Bloodyhawk, I haven't seen Cyber Formula. Sounds ultra budget. Gasolina sounds ultra budget hip-hop, and I don't want to touch that stuff with a rod the size of Montana. Yeah, I've done a rap vid, but only because the song was so well done. Unless rap has good accompanying instrumentals, it sucks.
DJ Ultima, I like Clamp's style. I just don't like their material. Magic Knight Rayearth (the first season) is actually one of my favorite series. I thought I sounded rude BEFORE I talked to you. You need to be more perceptive of who you're making appeals to.

Warheart, sorry about the delay. No net at home for the time being means I can't answer threads as much as I like. Death metal's good. I just don't use a lot of it in editing. I definitely intend to use Soultaker for a vid sometime. I'm just so backed up on my vids. I actually got a death metal vid goin' right now with The Agony Scene's cover of Paint it Black (for Image Diabolique 2). It's gonna have plenty of trippy FX, and it's about 40% - 50% done at the moment. You can expect it within 1 - 2 months. I'll check out Dark Tranquility's music sometime too.
