On one board years ago, I got into an argument with a girl who's screen name was literaly "bitch" and she was a mod. Eventually she started trying to "win" the argument by deleting all my posts and replacing them with things like "I like taking it up the ass" or "my penis is tiny" or "I like little boys penis". Far from mature, but she was so desparate to win and feel like she was in power. On another board long ago, another mod just deleted my posts outright during the debate... if I didn't say anything, then he must have been right.

No one wins an arguement online apparently. Unless it's a political blog maybe.
I don't think there is a point in worrying about shit like that when it's happening outside of here. I mean - we all (at least most of us) have been in that kind of situation at least once. Example : few years ago I was surfing at chatrooms, and have found one pretty neat chatroom (nice, mature people, and most important - no 1337 people). When I begun chatting chatting there,I thought that it might be the best chatroom I'll ever find - but then one moderator came : "|)3@T]-[|_0R|)" (deathlord). My message was - "OMG what a weird nickname - is there no normal alphabet or something?" (translated from lithuanian, sorry for poor language) - then he begun flaming and insulting me like : "rapture? what a girlish nickname!" - not that I give a shit about childrens talks, but I hate being insulted for sure. So then,he banned for 999 years.. What have I did then? Hacked that damn chatroom, moved all of it into a new domain, and made it into my own chat (it was WAP chat,so it wasn't that hard) and after that, all I did was updating a chat each week. It died after few weeks because I got tired of fixing it and stuff.

Story probably out of topic, but my point is - if you have a situation like that, just ignore it,leave that place, and forget about it. There is no point to stress out just because some kind of kid,n00b or idiot decided to use his "power" to try winning flamewar or any other kind of fight.

OK, late to the party and all (humor me, been faking dead again.)

But looking over the earlier posts in this thread.

I feel less concerned by the idea that someone may dislike AMVs, more with the fact that, if I'm reading this right, the guy got a temp ban for arguing that point with the mod.
Not because he had an issue with a call the moderator made in doing his job, but simply because he held an opinion said mod didn't find favorable.

I could be misreading things, if so, feel free to clarify...but looking at this, I have no problem with the fact the guy may simply not like AMVs...but I honestly dislike the idea of people using mod status to enforce their opinions to this degree, especially when its for something that, unless that's another omitted detail, isn't site policy.

Boy... Just wait till you spend 15 years in industry (expecially the oil and gas) and then you’ll really find out how people express their opinion...

Frankly, if the person thinks they suck, so be it... Granted, the presentation and way it was said is out of line, however that's what one has to live with in a society that wants free speech...

I don't let it bother me as I know that a lot of people like AMVs, so what if someone thinks they suck and are all stupid, that his opinion and I'd just ignore it unless they push it to the point of interfering.

If the guy doesn't have anything useful to say regarding the subject, don't take his opinion so seriously, if at all. His words sound like a waste of time.

What I've noticed (as far as the utube comment) is that people who watch AMV's on utube don't really get a good idea of what one is. People who are just getting into AMV's or watching one for the first time see one on utube and go "Oh, thats kinda neat, naruto clips to my favorite linkin park song" and don't think much of it.
Because of watching something like that they get the idea that all AMV's in general are like that. Different series and different songs, but still the same basic thing. So while it may be neat once in a while to watch an "amv" there really isn't much there for the person and you can't really blame them for not really caring for AMV's or even being against them.
Another thing is that for someone not into anime humor (and its DEFINITELY got its own little set of humor) a video like AMV Hell or Skittles or just something else oozing with anime sillyness and just flashy rainbow bullshit might literally sicken people who aren't accustomed to it.
Also you have to consider the audience...if this mod or admin or whatever is a relatively older and more mature person, hes not going to be able to connect to or enjoy a video that say 12 -15 year olds might.
"Anime kinda sucks if you're older than 20, guys"

The getting banned for a day or whatever seems pretty stupid though, and a bit of an over-reaction really for something as simple and basic as expressing your opinion on something. Anywho, thats my thoughts on that matter....

It hasn't been easy for me to learn this lesson, not easy at all.

But I finally graduated recently :)

Never support anywhere or anything, that doesn't support you.

I like amvs, they have my support. I'd dump the forum here in a heart beat if it suddenly became unsupportive though.

It's possible to like something, but not support it in places that did nothing to make you feel welcome.

I find people that like anime in the oddest places. But I know of people that love anime, just don't care for amvs.
Hey, it's possible to like drinking on the weekend, but hate beer :)
Anime, one of the few things about the internet that doesn't make me hate the internet.
