And you thought End of Evangelion was confusing!

Post by DTJB » Tue Oct 28, 2003 3:09 am

About a week ago, I got caught up on my movie watching and rented Matrix Reloaded, Bowling
for Columbine and 2001: A Space Odyssey. The Stanley Kubrick classic was enjoyable, but it
really left me scratching my head at the very end. Those who have seen it already know what I'm
talking about. For those of you who haven't, the movie has a plot, but it doesn't matter, the
visuals are the main attraction. I should have been told this from the get go.

Spoilers and Opinions!
I felt like comparing the ending of 2001 to the events in End of Evangelion because they seemed so similar, but I feel like it's taking the easy way out in
describing what the ending truly is by saying it's the same ending. In a way, you could say that Dave turning into the space
baby, or the Star Child as fans of the movie have called it, could be similar to Rei turning into the
giant form of Lilith. The images of Dave aging into an old man and reaching for the monolith
could mean that he reached out to discover the final stage of evolution, the giant entity hovering
over Earth. He was reaching for the monolith in the same way primitive man touched the
monolith and discovered technology. In End of Evangelion, all of mankind loses their physical
shape and join into Lilith, the giant entity standing on top of Earth. This is the final phase of
evolution. Maybe it's all from the same religious beliefs, I'll have to do some better
research.
Give me your opinions if you've seen both movies. If not, then these are some must watch
movies. Careful with 2001 though, it hardly makes any sense at all.
Probably too busy to be here right now.

Bowling for columbine made me laugh my ass off, Micheal moore was both stupid, and very inlighted.

I mean, he has a point about being able to go into a bank, and get a gun for a new bank account, and I found it admirable that he stopped k-mart in that area from selling bullets.

But the utter bull-shit that he did it all in the name of one little girl, is just too much, it made me crack up.

Plus it's a fucking long movie or "documentry" (it's longer than the matrix reloaded, the lord of the rings, or harry potter which is fucking saying something) the cartoons where funny, but... Still.

Though I understand a few parts of it (though being born into a family that is one of those apparent "Hick gun carrying" familes I guess I can't understand the unique nature of thise movie? ) but still.

Theres something to be said about micheal keeping his fat mouth shut.

Sorry just felt like ranting at 4am.

And for the sake of consistentsy a few more smily faces for your veiwing pleasure.

  :P :x :? :D :) :( :o

End.

Get your facts right. BfC is 130min, Matrix Reloaded is 138min and Two Towers is 178min.

If you would have said BfC feels longer than two other movies, that would have been other thing.

As a side note, I recommend everyone to watch 'Return of the King' (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0079802/) which, despite it's running time of 98min, feels a lot longer than Two Towers. Difference is of course than Return of the King is one stinking turkey and Two Towers is a gripping piece of film-making.

I mean, LOTR musical. What where they smoking? And why does Elrond have a halo around his head and on what part of the book did the great eagles airlift entire Gondorian army away from Mordor?

It was Peter Hyams (End of Days, Star Chamber, Capricorn 7, etc).

I gotta say... while 2001 had some very, very interesting imagery, the film never really got any sort of point across to me. Never liked it. Just an opinion, really. Of depressing experimental space films, I still much prefer Tarkovsky's 'Solaris'.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

No fucking duh, I said "it's long THAN the matrix reloaded, the lord of the rings OR harry potter" and seeing as how all three of those movies are longer than the standerd format of about 90 minutes I was right.

DOH' I see where you got the wrong impression now,

I ment the matrix ( I didnt mean to say reloaded sorry), and the lord of the rings (1) which on my dvd says is about 124 minutes. and as for the matrix thats about 100 (I'd be guessing).

Sorry for the confusion.

 Nope I wasnt right again.

The matrix is 2 - 16 minutes.

Bowling for columbine is 2 - 3 minutes

And the lord of the rings (1) is 2 - 45.

and Harry potter is (1) 2 - 45

Now I feel like an ass (feels bad).

Well sorry :P.

Still bowling for columbine is an extremely long documentry (movie?) and I still stick to what I said about it.

Stanley Kubrick should have worked in a meat packing factory, because he did an excellent job of butchering 2001: A Space Odysee :? He tried to be artistic, but wound up just confusing the audience by ruining a good story. So naturally, everyone that couldn't understand the movie didn't want to look like idiots, and went out into the streets proclaiming the greatness of Kubrick and his movie (which ironically made them look like idiots). So now we have a pointless movie that gets lauded by idiots that are trying to look smart.

I'm sorry you had to suffer through that movie. I think if you read both 2001 and 2010, you will gain a lot of insight into what the story is actually trying to tell.
