Topic addition in Recommendations forum
I was just curious if it might be a good idea to add a "Videos Made With Windows Movie Maker" topic to the Recommendations forum.
I don't mean to set that program on a pedestal or anything, but I think that a topic like that may be a way of easing the bad rap that it always seems to get. It could be a way to prove that great videos can be made, despite the program's simplicity, you know? Also, I think it would serve as encouragement to newbie creators who think that they can't make anything good with WMM.
Well, in the forum, it said that I should link to a video displaying an example of what I mean. While I think a link to arigatomina's profile would be proof enough, I'll go for this specific Elfen lied video made by Aria Uchiha - which, coincidentally, is being pimped in my signature. ^_^
Of course, it's just a thought. If a topic like that is considered unneccessary, I won't be heartbroken, but I would really push for it.

At first thought I like the idea. You are right, it depends more on the creator if a vid is good than the on program that is used. You can make good vid's with WMM and real crap with Adobe Premiere Pro. I don't use WMM, but only because I run Win2K on my PC, with WinXP I'd probably use it. But I wonder how you want to verify it? Only on the claim of the creator? I don't think that all creators that use WMM claim it in the vid's profile, because they are ashamed to confess it because of the bad reputation of WMM.
On the other hand, you can always check for the recommended videos in the vid's or creators profile which editor was used. I'm sure, there are vid's made with WMM amongst them. So this category seems to be rather unnecessary. Especially since it would IMHO give everyone who doesn't use the high praised (and possibly overrated) Premiere the right to request an own category for "his/her" editing programm.

Indeed. What's stopping people from writing "This video was made with Windows Movie Maker" on any video, just as a ploy to get attention in this sort of thread?Keeper of Hellfire wrote: But I wonder how you want to verify it? Would you ask every creator purporting to have made a video with Windows Movie Maker for their project file?

Well, if I can't rely on the creator's word, then it's a sad day indeed. I guess it's just a risk you take. I mean, I think that everyone has watched a video where only one of the multiple anime used was listed. Or only one of the songs. Or the spoiler wasn't marked - not even in the title of the anime, like it's supposed to be. To me, it's the same thing with using a program. If a person posts a video where the creator says, "hey, I made this with WMM," then you should trust that. However, if you watch the video and see a bunch of Premiere effects ('old film' in Premiere looks different than 'old film' in WMM), then you just go to the Mod Drop Box and say, "hey, I have a post that needs removing! ^_^". So, something like that. Also, if the creator doesn't mention in the video's profile what program was used, then it only takes a minute to PM them and say, "I liked your video <insert name> a lot. What program did you use?" If the creator knows that you are receptive, then maybe he/she will open up. If you don't get a response in a few days, then screw it. His/her video just won't get posted, right?trythil wrote:Indeed. As for the italicized sentence...okay, it's early in the morning, I only got a few broken hours of sleep, and blonde is, in fact, my natural hair color. Could please clarify what the heck that means? Rephrase it or something? (It would probably help if I knew what 'purpoting' meant.)
See, that's exactly what I was worried about. I don't want people to think I'm putting it above other programs - in fact, I'd kill for something better for myself. I just want to help get rid of its bad reputation, that's all.Keeper of Hellfire wrote:Especially since it would IMHO give everyone who doesn't use the high praised (and possibly overrated) Premiere the right to request an own category for "his/her" editing program.
Hmm...is this helping explain my thoughts any? I hope so.

Keep in mind there are "creators" that take other people's videos and try to pass them off as their own.dj_ultima_the_great wrote:Well, if I can't rely on the creator's word, then it's a sad day indeed.

A valid point, but I fail to see what that has to do with my thread. I already said that there are deceiving ones out there.Flint the Dwarf wrote:Keep in mind there are "creators" that take other people's videos and try to pass them off as their own.dj_ultima_the_great wrote:Well, if I can't rely on the creator's word, then it's a sad day indeed.

I can't answer the poll, for some reason. I have not answered it yet, to my knowledge. If I could answer, however, I would vote 'no.'
Can we get some dancers down here? Preferably scantily clad women, but firemen are okay too.derobert wrote:I've added a pole, we'll see how this goes...

I get the feeling that my suggestion is going downhill anyway, but a poll will at least make it a clear, black and white display of what people think.
