Public "my downloads"
I know this might be opening a can of worms, but how about an option to make your downloads list available to public, or maybe just available to those on your buddies list?
Reasoning for this: Maybe you and a friend have really similar taste in videos. You can check up on his list to see what he has rated highly, so you can download it too.
Maybe it could help if they were displayed without scores... (but still ranked according to score)...

But isn't this why we have a Favorites list in the first place, so others can see what we really liked?
I mean, downloading an AMV is by no means liking it. On the other hand, the favorites list has more than enough slots to fill in all your best favorites - unless you're REALLY eclectic

I think you've misunderstood the suggestion. Zarxrax is suggesting that you make the list of videos that a user has downloaded from Local optionally viewable to other users, such that the viewing user might be able to see what they liked and download those videos from the server for him/herself.
Furthermore, I agree with Otohiko that this idea is essentially redundant.

Hmm. Yea, I guess I forgot all about the favorites list, because I never use it. (nor do most people, or else they leave them hideously out of date).
I was just thinking something along the lines of "Oh, so-and-so just gave some video he downloaded a 5, that video must be really good, and I've never heard of it, I better check it out."

Theoretically, it could work... of course, there's already a lot of methods to look for videos others like (favorite list) or you might like through star ratings (suggestion query), so it's a little redundant.Zarxrax wrote:I was just thinking something along the lines of "Oh, so-and-so just gave some video he downloaded a 5, that video must be really good, and I've never heard of it, I better check it out."
But the main problem is that it sort of defeats the purpose of anonymous star ratings.
I do know that some members do like to post theirs though, and have recommendation/downloaded vid & star rating lists on their websites. Making that an optional feature for those who want to have a list like that on the .org might work, but again - 1) redundancy, 2) given the limited usefulness of it, I think something like that will be rather low on that big 'to-do' list the admins seem to have...

So, essentially this is about laziness.
People are too lazy to update their favourites list and therefore an automatic list (via my downloads) would show the videos that creators really liked.
Sounds fine except for one main flaw... The site developers are just as lazy as you lot so when this would ever be implemented (if at all) I do not know
