adding search criteria: Music Genre

Hi,

I just noticed that aside the Song title and the Music Interprete there is no way to search for AMVs with a certain kind of Music.
An Additional Search field (thus Databse entry for the AMVs) for the Genre (Rock, 60ties, Classic, Punk, etc.) would imo be very helpfull.

I know this creates several Problems:
1.) There are... uhm... many... AMVs allready in the database which would have to get this Entry assigned.
- Suggestion: Create a Default Genre-entry "Blank" for all AMVs, this AMVs woud behave just like if there woudl be n Genre entered (thus they would not be found by Genre specific searches). Then make a "News" Members Main Page which urges AMV creators to add the Approprriate Genre to their allready uploaded AMVs (via a Drop-down menu would be best i guess).
Thus slowly the AMVs will be assigned a Genrre entry by the Creators themself.
{lol, am not long here, so if i am just stating the obvious i am sorry}

2.)... mooo... i am sure there was another problem in my Mind, but i seem to have forgotten it while typing

There was a thread a while back suggesting the same thing
but frankly I dont think it is a good idea.

Definitions of Music Genres can get really deep and differentiated opinions form from different people/ People searching for AMVs to a specific music genre might find some which are not to their genre definition; but is to the creator, and so forth.
Complications and definitions differ and personally I find it just a mess.

2.) Genre Definitions are subjective.
- Suggestion: Create a (well visibil) Help Page Link (right next to the search field/upload Information field). On that help Page there could be the "official" .org Definitions of the Music Genres with Examples&stuff. this would minimize the Confusion. Also it of course should be Possibil to put more than one genre on an AMV... like for the Category (Action, Drama etc.).

Well see thats the problem...
Everyone's definition of music genre are not the same. Thats why I belive it is just best fit to sort it by the musical artist than genre. It just gets things complicated for me...

Thus the "Official" .org Genre definition.
if you don't like it, leave it Blank, will only make it unavailable in a Genre specific search

Like there isn't enough clutter with people marking every single anime catagory we could let them also enter every single music genre. Wonderful.

Although I suppose an AMV done to rock/opera/rap/yodeling would be interesting to see.

I think it could be an interesting idea though. I mean, I'd like to be able to search up some stuff like that occasionally; though perhaps a better 'clutter-management' system would be required for that.

As i will often suggest, there is always an easy way to stop the problem of, say, a video being listed in every category or every genre. First. Make it a policy that such actions will not be tollerated. Second start deleting videos that fall into that category. Third, if the video is re-uploaded by the creator with the same blatent disregard for the rules his/her account/ip is banned. Since it would be difficult to implement such a measure alone, the mods could give rewards to people for scouting around for such rule breakers (if people are, themselves, attempting to harass other by reporting a legitimate video to the mods, than that individual would be baned.

See how when we all follow the rules we don't get our kneecaps broken.

Something about what you wrote makes me think you work for the Department of Homeland Security.

but there are many bands who do not fit into specific genres

take finntroll for instance

they take elements from:
black metal
death metal
finnish folk music
and polka
