For gods sake, you guys can't think like Admins, you have to think like human beings. (Aparently, you're forgetting that you are ones)
You could make a god damned popup window in large text explain the rules when someone signs up, probabbly less than half will even READ them. No one reads terms of services or acceptable user policys, so you can't expect them to do so, it's unreasonable. No one looks in announcment sections of forums first, no one reads the damn sticks, they jump right into the MEAT of the forums first and they start posting. That's it, that's how it works, you can't change it, so stop thinking of ways to do that, god. I can see why Phade never really left anyone in charge before now, you're bigger idiots than he is.

We can change it or at least improve it.
We can make people wait 48 hours before they can post on the forums.
We can have the rules easily viewable on every page.
We can have faq's on every forum.
These aren't uncommon things on other forums that I frequent and they have far fewer problems with new users. So have a little faith that some of these things will help.

I don't know if this is an option, but since you did mention you might be doing a 'welcome' section, I'll toss it out. You could have new members be able to only post in the welcome section for a 'limited time' as a sort of probation. If the welcome is anything like the old 'all about me' section, every single new member will get some sort of response - most from people pointing them to read the rules, check the guides, all the usual need-to-know information.AbsoluteDestiny wrote:We can make people wait 48 hours before they can post on the forums.
New members might not willingly read the faq's on their own, but when they're welcomed and told (face to face) that they need to check those sections - most will read them. It would be a combination of two ideas - the 'welcome/start off on a good track' the newbies, and 'educate the new posters.' Pop-ups are also good, especially if they're repetitive and annoying - eventually most people will read them just to get them to stop (like having a hidden link somewhere on the page that you have to read to find). But having a 'personal' greeter tell you what you should be looking at before you start posting - that's more likely to do the trick in one step.

I like the idea of having to wait a day or two before you can post after you sign up. It's not that big a deal, and will get a lot of people less yelled at. (even though they really should not be yelled at in the first place.)
I also have to say I like necroposting. It give the forum a sense of it's history, and thus a feeling of community. Although if done all the time, it can be extremely annoying. I also don't like it when someone brings back a flame thread that never got locked.
For example, say a tree falls in a forest...

Ah, but if no one else can understand (or complain for that mater) does it really need to be moderated?paizuri wrote:It's also kind of hard to moderate things when we don't understand what they're saying. =P

OMG, site admins with senses of humor WHAT A SHIT SITE INDEED! Last I checked, that guide was made along time before AD was the site's administrator though.
Oh, and I, for one, did read the rules when I signed up. And I'm an asshole. If I can do it any other moron can as well. Why settle for the lowest common denominator anyway? If you think the site and it's admins suck so bad I'm sure that their are other places you could go with uptight site admins that are kindred to yourself. In fact you might even be doing others a favor by seeking them out!
