More than 5 stars?

I looked through the 5 most recent pages, and I found nothing on this topic, although I bet it has been mentioned before...

Why is there only an option of 5 stars? I'd highly prefer having 10 (or .5's). There are some vids that are pretty good, IMO almost 4's, but then I think of other vids that I've given 4's that were much better. So I consider 3, but then there are vids that I've given 3's that were much worse. I usually end up giving a score that I don't feel is accurate.

I realize that opinions are a solution to this, but sometimes there just aren't enough things I can think of to comment on that would make an opinion worth bothering with, for me or the vid's creator.

So, I hope you'll take the time to consider adding a star scale of 1-10 instead of just 1-5.

I don't have the link but I've seen the topic before. I think the gist of the reasoning was that the star ratings is meant to be a quick 'liked it/didn't like it' rating and a 10 point scale is just too finely detailed for that. IIRC Phade mentioned he originally wanted just a 2 point thumbs up/down scale and needed to be talked into the 5 point scale.

Besides, with a 10 point scale people seem to use options 6-10 like a 5 point scale and ignore 1-5 (unless they really hated something, then 1 gets used) and things tend to skew towards the upper end. The opinion scores at least seem to have fallen into this usage, I've always found it somewhat odd that with an average of 7 or 8 given I fall below site average for every catagory.

What would happen to all the current star ratings on videos if we changed it to 10 stars

5 stars are supposed to give just a brief account of how the video fairs against others. Phade made it only 5, so that it can be simple and not very complicated.
