I currently have an EXE file on disc that when loaded plays a video. I want to capture this video and save it as an actual video file, an AVI if possible.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to work with this?
Changing a .EXE that plays a video file into just a video

Most likely, this won't be nearly as easy as you want.
I suggest getting a video card with TV in and out. Play back the video and record to a VCR tape. Then, record the video back in and digitize.
Yes, it's probally that hard.
If the video is really embedded in a binary file, you'll have to do some digital mojo with a hex editor to get it out - if it's even in a format that can be read.
If it's a program with a seperate video file, you might be better off.

if its an exe then the video is probably encded in the bink video codec. Their should be an encoder/decoder at www.radgametools.com/bnkmain.htm

If it is a Flash file, Sothink SWF Decompiler is able to open Flash .exe files. Of course, before that, you need to remove any passwords or protection that the file may have on it (if Flash .exe files have that option). If it does, you can try UnlockSWF, but since it only mentions SWF, not Flash .exe, I doubt if it can open it. Like I said though, I have no clue if protection or compression can be applied to a Flash file saved as an executable.
After you've exported the audio and video (in mp3 and swf formats) from Sothink, you can use TMPGEnc to open the SWF file as long as you have the Quicktime plugin for TMPGEnc (you could also use Quicktime Pro's Export to AVI function, if you have QT Pro, that is).
