Alternatives for new memory.

Post by Brolly345 » Thu Mar 24, 2005 1:26 am

I have been getting error messages lately. This isn't the exact error, but it's the gist of it:
error sorta wrote wrote:An error occured at "blah". The memory could not be read. Please hit OK to close the application.
Blah being something like 0x0000000, or something. If I get it again I'll post the exact message. I get this error when I play Half Life 2 Deathmatch the most. It will freeze the game and I have to restart my computer. I have 1GB of DDR400 RAM. If that helps at all.

I'm going to run memtest tonight. I'll update back with the results.

But I want to know if there is any way to make this error message go away without having to purchase new memory. If results from memtest are required just be patient. I'm going to do that tonight. :)

One other thing I would like to add to this little problem. I also occationally get an error message when I shut down Windows. I don't know exactly what this one says, and I can't really read all of it because it flashes on screen for about a half a second then my computer shuts down like normal.

From what little I can read I got that it says an application failed to open. Now I bet the rest of it would be to click OK to cancel or something similar. Anyone else have expirience with this little issue? I though formatting would have gotten rid of it, but it did not.

One other thing. I ran memtest and it came up with no errors.

Check CPU temperature and let memtest86 just run in a loop. If either come up with abnormalities, that's a good place to start looking.

Well, my CPU temperature usually hovers around 30-40 degrees celsius when it's idle or handling small tasks. When I run a game like Half Life 2, Max Payne 2, or something similar it tends to go up to 50-52 degrees celsius. My thresholds for the temperature are default, I think 68 degrees, and my log has yet to have a report of it going over 58 degrees celsius.

I intend to just let Memtest86 just run all night tonight. I'll post whether or not it comes up with anything tomorrow afternoon or something.

It's been good today though. I haven't gotten any errors.

Alright, I ran Memtest86 for about ten hours and twenty five minutes. I passed every test that was thrown at my memory. 35 passed 0 failed. Maybe the CPU temperature..... >_> <_<
