Post by OzzieArcane » Sun May 09, 2004 9:04 pm

Does a 4 minute huffyuv encoded AVI usually take 2.5 GB or am I doing something wrong somehow?

Thats about right. Huffyuv is lossless. That means its is big. Its not meant as a distribution codec. You use something like mpeg or a divx variant for that.

I know, it's ment for source footage. I was just making sure because it's pretty huge. Even with a 120 GB harddrive, I can't store too many clips at the same time with that kind of file size.

That is why you frame serve from avisynth and use the vobs off of the DVD. Which are much smaller than the huffyuv's

Also, do you need all four minutes of that clip? You can break it up smaller, if you have to.

If he did, he could still write an AVISynth script that'll take up maybe 70 kbs tops. (In English: Nothing) If you're using the VOBs or another MPEG-2 source, put it into a DVD2AVI project and then write a script according to the guide.
