Foreign song AMV in Recommended AMV forum
I don't see a topic for AMV featuring foreign songs (that means other than English and Japanese) in the Recommended forum. How about we make one?

I've done that request a long time ago in that section, but it seems to be ignored..Eek-1 wrote:I don't see a topic for AMV featuring foreign songs (that means other than English and Japanese) in the Recommended forum. How about we make one?

Spanish, Korean, German, Chinese, Italian, French ... actually, this org is not that picky about music -- its focus is on Videos with music. To isolate one language would just be rude!Eek-1 wrote:I don't see a topic for AMV featuring foreign songs (that means other than English and Japanese) in the Recommended forum. In addition to this comment, what is foreign to one person may be native to another. English is a foreign language. It just isn't foreign to me. Besides, I don't understand why you wouldn't include Japanese as a foreign language if that's the line of thinking you're going by.post-it wrote:Spanish, Korean, German, Chinese, Italian, French ... actually, this org is not that picky about music -- its focus is on Videos with music. I'm gonna say no to this idea, as it puts dividing lines where they shouldn't exist by using a very vague word like "foreign" as criteria. Sorry.

Meh. I like the idea. I mean it seems that English is *mainly* the language of choice on this site anyways. So it seems only logical to me that the word "foreign" on these forums should mean any language but english. Plus I admit, I've got a tendency to want to listen to amv's w/ lyrics other than english in the music from time to time. Such a thread would make finding those amv's at least a little easier. The only issue I really have with this is that being a recommendation thread, the results would naturally be rather limited.
So instead of another recommendation thread, I propose either one of two things.
1.) The org incorporate an option under an amv's info page that allows a person to list what language the lyrics are in (if any). I mean we already have the option to search for and list amv's that have little to no lyrics (a.k.a. instrumentals). So why not take it a step further? That way, members can use the super search feature to look for amv's with songs pertaining to the specified language. Of course, I'm sure this would take a lot more work to do.
2.) So option number 2 is just an easier version of option 1 that's not as accurate/specific. As I mentioned before, sometimes I'd rather just listen to any amv with lyrics other than english. I don't really care what other language the lyrics are in exactly.
So, Under the amv info page in the "category" section, the org could incorporate an option to list an amv as "foreign" among the other things. (action, romance, instrumental, etc.)
"Foreign" could then be specifically defined as meaning any song where most of the lyrics are not in english (so as to avoid any confusion). Of course I can see how this whole thing could make "dividing lines where they shouldn't exist" as dj stated, but then again, the individual doesn't necessarily have to take it in such an offensive way either. Especially if it's only an optional thing.
But it's just my 2 cents on the subject and nothing more.

I like the idea of a "language option" for vids. But since that's a lot of work and making a rec thread is very quick...
Just name the thread "Videos using non-English songs".
Though I'm inclined to agree that Foreign on this site means anything but English. It doesn't matter how many foreign members we have. The Forum is in English. The rules are in English. The guides are in English. Even the catelogue search is in English. It's an English website. I don't see how anyone could doubt that. o.O

The reason I suggested this because AMV with English songs are the majority on this site. It's very hard for me to look for videos having songs in other languages. There was only one time that I downloaded a video using Russian song (that I first thought it was French
) by accident and I liked it. It made me interested to find out more about songs and artists from that particular country.

Good suggestion. I don't know why I said to exclude the Japanese songs also, but maybe since I listened to them a lot already.Arigatomina wrote:..Just name the thread "Videos using non-English songs"..
To me, in this case, it isn't. I'd think it's a way for people to promote other languages and let everyone know.post-it wrote:..To isolate one language would just be rude..

It really just depends on how you look at it. Eek-1 just posted one alternate way to look at the idea he proposed, and I can just as easily point out another.
For example, I can suggest that this idea wouldn't necessarily be isolating other languages and the people who speak them on this site, but rather, it could be looked at as a method to accommodate them instead. I mean why not make it easier for that non-english speaking individual to find an amv w/ a song in his or her own native tongue?
*shrugs shoulders*
From my main point of view, this whole idea is just another way to sort of organize the catalogue. But then again, it's not uncommon for perfectly good intentions to go bad. So take it as you will.
