Of course, at that time, he was only showing me badly done DBZ videos. When he and his friend started making their own AMVs a few years ago (Lawrence Studios), I still thought they were kind of silly, but they were also just starting out and even they admit that their videos weren't that great.
Finally, they started asking for my opinion when they were working on videos and I slowly got more interested in them. I was also being introduced to more anime besides what Cartoon Network aired. As I got more involved in their AMVs, I realized I have quite a flair for this type of work--I had the technical, creative, and musical talents needed to really create something worthwhile. I even started getting my own ideas that I really wanted to do myself because my vision for them was so clear.
What I lacked was motivation.
I've had one particular idea for almost two years now, and I still haven't started that one. However, Otakon 2009 brought Lawrence Studios (myself included) First Place in Comedy and Best In Show. It lit a fire under my ass, and my very first video, "As The Cherry Blossoms Fall," using 5 Centimeters Per Second, was completed start to finish in 14 hours about a week after Otakon. I did this one first instead of my first idea because, let's face it, the anime is only an hour long. My other idea is 52 episodes. I WILL eventually finish my first idea, but I have many smaller projects in the pipeline right now.
I hope you stay tuned and see what else I can come up with!
