We've heard the "Pet Peeves" so lets hear what you

Postby JaddziaDax » Thu Oct 06, 2005 4:07 am

This is the first Thread I have started, but I guess theres a first for everything even if I have been a member for almost a year already lol.

I've read all the pet peeves thread, and I am feeling kinda down about this whole place now so lets list some of the things we like in AMVs, things that make your day brighter :D

I like when I leave an opinion that may have come off as "not so nice" and the person replies with "OMG THANK YOU!" and not only appreciates the advice, but also works to improve on AMVs... AND DOES IMPROVE! That is wonderful! Even if I dont have much advice to give, its nice to see other editorers actually take people's advice and work to improve :)

I also like when I download a video and I expect it to be lets say "not so good" and it turns out 100x better than I expected!

I also like it when people do great AMVs on animes that are semi-over "n00bed" like Tokyo Mew Mew (mew mew power) or Full Moon or DN Angel...

and I am sure that theres more, but I am going to leave the rest up to the community :)

I love seeing a polite well spoken newbie. I feel like standing up and aplauding them just for having a reasonable grasp of the english language, a modicum of comon sense, and a touch of human decency.

I love seeing a clever, well thought out or meaningful title.

I love the feeling of releasing a new video.

I like seeing forum regulars answering questions, even if the person should have figured it out using the guides.

I like seeing friends responding to each others posts.

I like brown paper packages tied up with string. Especially if they are addressed to me.

I like good topics in general AMV.

I like waking up in the morning, getting ready for work, and reading a fresh new quick comment,

"You are going to hell for this."

I like getting responses to the opinions I give, even if it's just a simple "thanks for the opinion." It lets me know that not only did the creator notice my comments, but also gave it at least a few moments of thought. I don't get opinions too often myself, so getting responses to the ones I give are the next best thing.

I like side character videos. Even if they aren't so well done, I like knowing that someone took the time to look at the story of a character who may not be so well known, but is still cool.

I like videos that can tell a story completely skewed from the anime itself. On a related topic, I also like videos that go against the canon telling of a story.

There are tons of other things I love to see, but those are probably my main ones. So, I'll stop with them.

Bwaahaahaa

I never get fun ones like that. But it's really not as much fun in quick comments, since you can't respond to them like you can opinions.

I guess I should actually post some things I like to see. Hmmm.

I like seeing people using older, lesser used shows, especially when they use them well.

I like it when I watch an AMV and discover a song or group I had either not heard of before or had not paid any attention to but find that I actually really like.

I like getting quick comments and opinions, period. I think I enjoy this more since I don't really get them all that often, so they're a rare treat.

I like watching an AMV and noticing that the editor has made extremely good use of minimal effects or when their effects are so subtle that it's easy to miss that they even used effects at all.

Somewhat counter to that, I like seeing when someone comes up with/uses a really flashy and interesting effect well that I've not seem before (best example of this lately has been JCD's dance vids from ACen & AWA Expo). Admittedly, this is also a bit frustrating because I find myself watching the videos going, "OK, I could probably duplicate that effect- but I don't think in a thousand years I would have thought it up from scratch..."

Seeing the reactions of a large audience to my videos. Sitting in Main Events at a con like Otakon with thousands of people nodding their heads, clapping, or laughing while your video plays is something that I get goosebumps just thinking about.

I love it when I get a review from an intelligent person who seems to inherintly understand where I'm comming from. So many reviews I get are either all 10s or all 10s with a 5 for review with little or no actual feedback. Getting someone who was very impacted by the video to write you about their feelings is always the best for me.

Things I really enjoy :

Well-placed and accurate lip-sync. When it's pulled off just right, and you can tell the person put in the effort to make it perfect, it's very satisfying.

Internal beat-sync. If someone takes the time to manipulate the footage directly to make the actions sync with elements of the music, I appreciate that. I prefer seeing that to unaltered footage with overlaid white flashes/other effects.

Originality. That's a pretty broad statement, but true nonetheless. It's nice to see a video that uses something different, or one that puts a new spin on a more widely-used source.

There are more, but many have been covered by the above posters. Some of them are pretty universal.

Originality. Not original song/anime choice done in the same old styles we all know but actual originality. A video that makes me sit up and say 'I haven't seen that attempted before'.

Something that makes me reconsider the banner in my sig. I haven't encountered it yet but I'm sure I'd like it.

Cheap tasteless comedies. God knows I do enough of them, I had better like them.

Tits. They have nothing to do with AMV, but I love em anyway.

I love responding to well thought out and detailed opinions, it feels like they actually took time to try and understand what I was doing.

I love the excitement of creating a new video entry and anticipation of uploading something new for everyone to see.

I love being excited about working on a video as opposed to it feeling like a chore.

I love seeing videos in the announcement threads that use music I actually enjoy.

And most of all...I love getting reviews from chicks on my hentai videos, that is just hawt.

Copy what penpen said.

+ I love it when I go "wow" after watching an AMV and leaving the player open for repeating it over and over.

+ It's a great honor to me if somebody does the same with one of my videos, one reason why I create them :D
